An Introduction to Latent Variable Growth Curve Modeling

An Introduction to Latent Variable Growth Curve Modeling

Routledge Member of the Taylor and Francis Group
2006

This book provides a comprehensive introduction to latent variable growth curve modeling (LGM) for analyzing repeated measures. It presents the statistical basis for LGM and its various methodological extensions, including a number of practical examples of its use. It is designed to take advantage of the reader’s familiarity with analysis of variance and structural equation modeling (SEM) in introducing LGM techniques. Sample data, syntax, input and output, are provided for EQS, Amos, LISREL, and Mplus on the book’s CD. Throughout the book, the authors present a variety of LGM techniques that are useful for many different research designs, and numerous figures provide helpful diagrams of the examples.Updated throughout, the second edition features three new chapters—growth modeling with ordered categorical variables, growth mixture modeling, and pooled interrupted time series LGM approaches. Following a new organization, the book now covers the development of the LGM, followed by chapters on multiple-group issues (analyzing growth in multiple populations, accelerated designs, and multi-level longitudinal approaches), and then special topics such as missing data models, LGM power and Monte Carlo estimation, and latent growth interaction models. The model specifications previously included in the appendices are now available on the CD so the reader can more easily adapt the models to their own research. This practical guide is ideal for a wide range of social and behavioral researchers interested in the measurement of change over time, including social, developmental, organizational, educational, consumer, personality and clinical psychologists, sociologists, and quantitative methodologists, as well as for a text on latent variable growth curve modeling or as a supplement for a course on multivariate statistics. A prerequisite of graduate level statistics is recommended.

Abuse doesn't just hurt the body or mind; it hurts the soul. When you suffer physical or verbal abuse, it's easy to slip into hopelessness-especially when abuse comes from a loved one or someone in a position of authority. However, anyone can draw strength from the universe and find a way out of abusive circumstances. A Conversation with God concerning Abuse offers spiritual guidance to anyone who feels abused. Author Lisa Patricia A. Thomas urges readers to connect with God or with whoever or whatever they consider to be the supreme being in the universe. It is through this connection that anyone in abusive circumstances can find the courage and resources needed to find peace and happiness. Abuse is never the victim's fault. Nonetheless, the burden of halting abuse often falls to the victim. As difficult as it is to recognize abuse and change your circumstances, it is absolutely imperative for your safety and happiness. A Conversation with God offers a clear spiritual road map away from abuse and toward a better life. Remember: God did not put you on Earth to suffer.

Mexico A vibrant land of color and beautiful music. Moving literature and delicious food. Breathtaking natural scenery and awe-inspiring ancient cultures. In this book we've gathered over 80 children's songs and rhymes that are popular in Mexico, presented in their original Spanish language and with translations into English. Many have commentary sent to us by our correspondents who are immersed in the traditions and culture of Mexico. You'll find nursery rhymes like Tortillitas (Little Tortillas), circle games like A la rueda de San Miguel (The Circle of St. Miguel), and lullabies like Arrorr mi ni o (Hush-a-bye My Baby). We've also included songs for special occasions like Las ma anitas (Little Morning) - a birthday and Mother's Day Song. And, of course, Cantos para romper la pi ata (Songs for Breaking the Pi ata), a collection of verses sung during one of our favorite Mexican traditions There's not always a sharp distinction between songs sung by children and by adults. So we've included a sampling of popular traditional songs like De Colores (All the Colors). De colores is originally from Spain, as are many songs that are sung in both Mexico and many countries in South America. Mexico has had interesting influences from the Mayan and Aztec civilizations. So you'll find several songs here from those cultures, including Xtoles... which has one of the oldest musical melodies still known. At the end of each item, there's a web address to an online version of the song or rhyme. There we are often able to include sheet music, recordings and videos of performances. We hope this book will help foster a love of Mexican songs and culture all over the world This book includes: -Mexican songs, rhymes, lullabies, and carols -Each in the original language and with translations into English -Commentary from ordinary people about what the songs have meant to their lives -Web links to recordings and sheet music -Illustrations
