The inspiring story of Dr Patricia Bath, a groundbreaking ophthalmologist who pioneered laser surgery - and gave her patients the gift of sight. Born in the 1940s, Patricia Bath dreamed of being an ophthalmologist at a time when becoming a doctor wasn’t a career option for most women, especially African-American women. This empowering biography follows Dr Bath in her quest to save and restore sight to the blind, and her decision to “choose miracles” when everyone else had given up hope. Along the way, she co-founded the American Institute for the Prevention of Blindness, invented a specialised laser for removing cataracts and became the first African-American woman doctor to receive a medical patent.

Dr Frankenstein is shocked when his fiancee Elizabeth visits him suddenly. She is not the sweet, quiet girl he expects to spend the rest of his life with but a worse for wear corpse. The real shock comes however, when she gives him an ultimatum. She announces that he is not the world's greatest scientist but a character in a book that made a monster. He treated the monster so badly, it killed their family and friends, including her. Elizabeth warns Victor that he must love the monster like a son to change the story; otherwise they will have no future together. Frankenstein is adamant that if he is only a character in the book, then everything that has happened is the fault of the author. He believes that he can force Mary Shelley to write that he creates a perfect human being instead of a monster; then Elizabeth will be his forever. His servant, Toadstool has ulterior motives and eggs Frankenstein on to get his revenge on Mary Shelley. Can Frankenstein force Mary Shelley to re-write her novel?

Much has been written about the aesthetics of the television series Hannibal and its devoted fans, and some have discussed its philosophical ideas and its Gothic characteristics, but until now there has been no in-depth reading of the show as a fairy tale. However, the show positions itself as a fairy tale in its third season. Recognizing it as a fairy tale provides an understanding of its appeal and forces us to consider its lessons. Like a fairy tale, Hannibal plays with time and reality and teaches its audience about their world and how to survive in it. From the show, the audience learns both the importance and the danger of family and friends, the complicated nature of humanity containing the capability for good and evil, and the arbitrariness of society's definitions and taboos. As a fairy tale, it draws its viewers in and encourages them not only to come back time and again but to retell and even add to the story.
This is the first book to comprehensively examine the multitude of non-Archie teen humor comic books, including girls and boys such as Patsy Walker, Hedy Wolfe, Buzz Baxter and Wendy Parker from Marvel; Judy Foster, Buzzy, Binky and Scribbly from DC; Candy from Quality Comics; and Hap Hazard from Ace Comics. It covers, often for the first time, the history of the characters, who drew them, why (or why not) they succeeded as rivals for the Archie Series, highlights of both unusual and typical stories and much more. The author provides major plotlines and a history of the development of each series. Much has been written about the Archie characters, but until now very little has been told about most of their many comic book competitors.

My Journey to Re-Discovery Just when you think you have life all figured out an unexpected turn of events can make you step back and re-evaluate your life's decisions. The key to happiness is exploring all aspects of your life and the willingness to face the Good, the Bad and the Ugly This road trip called life does not come with a manual. Watching my single mother search for love while navigating both healthy and dysfunctional relationships and having an inconsistent father who prioritized others and valued material possessions over me as a child, at times made the realization of who I am, how I deserved to be loved, and the value I placed on myself seem skewed. A child's first relationship is with their parents or caregiver and while the examples I learned about relationships from my parents were not always healthy, I had to learn how not to perpetuate the same unhealthy habits I'd witnessed growing up. This meant traveling down a sometimes curvy and bumpy road that would be uncomfortable. So, it is in this memoir, that I invite you into my most personal and deepest thoughts with hopes that you too may see life and love through a different lens. It has helped me to love who I am, to expect the unexpected, to trust God's process, and most of all to walk by faith and not by sight. I am stronger. I have a healthier outlook on love and life.
