Every spiritual seeker knows that there are seven main chakras-also described as energy centers or wheels of light. Blocked energy in the chakras can often lead to physical illness as well as spiritual malaise. The trick is how to balance these systems in our lives, and in "The Seven Chakra Sisters," spiritual psychotherapist and healer Linda Rosenthal shows us exactly that. Rosenthal takes readers on a metaphysical, metaphorical romp into the world of the 7 chakras. She offers a delightful teaching fable about the unique personalities of the 7 Chakras to help us understand the important role they play in our health and well being.Rosenthal paints a wonderfully vivid portrait of these 7 chakra "sisters" that live in all of us to teach the principles of energy healing and show readers how to bring the chakras into optimal alignment: Aneeda, the Needy One, the root chakra (red)Ivanna, the Wanting One, the sacral chakra (orange)Ahafta, the One Who Has to, the solar plexus chakra (yellow)Iluvya, the Loving One, the heart chakra (green)Singya, the Expressive One, the throat chakra (blue)Useeme, the All-Seeing One, the third eye chakra (indigo)Iamone, the One of Oneness, the crown chakra (violet)Through her light-hearted and funny exploration of the personalities and relationships of these chakra siblings, Rosenthal seriously shows readers how to achieve optimal physical and emotional health.

As a teenager, Michele Rosenthal was diagnosed with a disease so rare none of her doctor's had actually seen a case. She recovered, but found as an adult that she was suffering from a storehouse of nightmarish memories from her near-fatal illness. For years she experienced PTSD, until she developed tools that worked to heal her symptoms. In "Heal Your PTSD," Rosenthal applies the tools and ideas she developed from reclaiming her own life after trauma. As she says, "We're all individual in our traumas, but completely universal in our post-trauma experience. Every trauma survivor needs education, compassion, creativity, ideas, hope, and belief, to name a few." She tackles post trauma identity, the science of the brain and body (as it relates to trauma), common problems and how to resolve them, how to gain (and maintain) momentum, and so much more. She provides readers not only with healing thoughts on each topic, but actionable steps for moving forward with their lives.

Robots are perennial kid-favorites. In this series, acclaimed illustrator Marc Rosenthal's vividly colored, retro-futuristic robots encourage kids age 2 to 5 to lift the flaps and learn all about basic concepts. One Robot Lost His Head follows the travails of a slightly clumsy robot who can't quite keep track of his own head, and the smart robot pals who help him find it. A gatefold on each spread opens to reveal a visual punch line that teaches kids basic number skills while making them laugh. Each number is presented as a bold numeral, with a matching number of robots shown on the spread. The robots, though not human, are nevertheless full of charm, and their antics, captured perfectly in Marc Rosenthal's colorful, funny illustrations, are sure to crack up toddlers and preschool-age kids. - Printed on sturdy, thick paper, these titles can stand up to the challenge of little hands and repeated readings - Marc's illustrations can be seen regularly in The New Yorker, Time, Forbes, Fortune, The Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times, Boston Globe, and The Washington Post; his previous children's books have been described by The New York Times Book Review as "hugely appealing." Series Overview Artist Marc Rosenthal's new series of interactive concept books introduces a group of friendly, colorful, retro-futuristic robots that demonstrate counting, opposites, shapes, and colors through lift-the-flap gatefolds that transform each illustration in a kid-pleasing way.

The Jihadist Plot

The Jihadist Plot

"How could this happen in a country we helped liberate?" Secretary of State Hillary Clinton pondered in the aftermath of the September 11, 2012 attacks in Benghazi that left American ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens and three other Americans dead. The Jihadist Plot: The Untold Story of Al-Qaeda and the Libyan Rebellion shows how it could have happened and why it did happen. It happened because in supporting the Libyan rebellion against Muammar al-Qaddafi, America and its allies, in effect, changed sides in the war on terror, securing the victory of some of the very Islamic extremist forces that they had been fighting for the previous decade. The result is a Libya that is today under the sway of heavily-armed jihadist brigades that make no secret of their allegiance to al-Qaeda, proudly flying the al-Qaeda flag in broad daylight in Benghazi and other Libyan cities. Moreover, as the September 11 Benghazi attacks make clear, if America reversed course in Libya in order to join forces with jihadists, the jihadists remain exactly as they ever were, with the same ideology and the same hatred of America. Exploding the myth of NATO's "humanitarian intervention," The Jihadist Plot tells the real story of the Libyan rebellion. It traces the itineraries of some of the notorious veterans of international jihad who served as the rebellion's leading commanders and strategists and shows how NATO helped to create a new jihadist hero at the siege of Sirte. And it reveals that long before the onset of the so-called Arab Spring, Libya's own al-Qaeda affiliate, the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, had devised a plan to bring down the Qaddafi regime using some of the classic methods of jihadist terror: a plan that would be put into practice in the rebellion of February 2011.

Although music is known to be part of the great social movements that have rocked the world, its specific contribution to political struggle has rarely been closely analyzed. Is it truly the 'lifeblood' of movements, as some have declared, or merely the entertainment between the speeches? Drawing on interviews, case studies and musical and lyrical analysis, Rosenthal and Flacks offer a brilliant analysis and a wide-ranging look at the use of music in movements, in the US and elsewhere, over the past hundred years. From their interviews, the voices of Pete Seeger, Ani DiFranco, Tom Morello, Holly Near, and many others enliven this highly readable book.

[2015 Reprint] Roger Tory Peterson—the Renaissance man who taught Americans the joy of watching birds—also invented the modern field guide. His 1934 landmark Field Guide to the Birds was the first book designed to go outdoors and help people identify the elements of nature. This self-proclaimed “student of nature” combined spectacular writing with detailed illustrations to ultimately publish many other books, winning every possible award and medal for natural science, ornithology, and conservation. Peterson also traveled the world, giving lectures on behalf of the National Audubon Society and, despite his self-effacing demeanor, becoming recognized as the key force to alerting the public to the importance of preserving nature. There are now an estimated 70 million birdwatchers in the United States. For this meticulously detailed biography, Rosenthal has interviewed more than a hundred of Peterson’s family, friends, and associates to create a fully rounded portrait of this hero of the conservation movement. Never-before-seen photographs enhance this intimate portrayal.

“Mira Rosenthal’s The Local World incorporates deeply lived experience and mystery in a fluent shape-shifting that can take you anywhere— and bring you back, changed. The poems are beautifully crafted narratives of loss, travel, and salvage. There is a damaged family at the heart of these poems, an abandoned farm, and many rooms, parks, and train cars in far places. Yet, like all really good poems, Rosenthal’s language consistently rises above its cries to wonder and beauty. What a joy to find this stunning first book to award the Stan and Tom Wick Poetry Prize.” —Maggie Anderson, Judge“In Mira Rosenthal’s stunning debut collection, The Local World, memory is not a static screen for nostalgia but a fierce journey into the self where danger resides. These beautifully crafted poems work through a series of brilliant tropes, a tissue pattern resting over a piece of cloth, a knife cutting from the inside, a boy shadow-boxing with himself, a sunflower ‘like the mast of ship rising tall.’ Rosenthal is both a traveler and a thinker. Her poems, elegant marvels, dramatize her personal struggle to understand and transform the past. This is a dynamic book, one to read and reread.”—Maura Stanton“The poems in this stark collection feel as if they have arrived just after casting off emotional ballast. A burden has been carried from the familiar world, and over time and distance, that load has been dispersed. And now the poet returns, halfway between grief and transcendence, but in that dark return lies hope.”—Maurice Manning

In 2004 Malawi began to offer antiretroviral therapy to anyone who needed it. This undertaking would have been ambitious for any nation, but it was unprecedented coming from one of the poorest countries in the world.Health on Delivery examines this introduction of state-provided antiretroviral therapy from an ethnographic perspective. Moving from World Health Organization boardrooms in Geneva to clinics held under trees in rural Malawi, it studies the patients, healthcare providers, and policy-makers involved, considering how the rollout has impacted their lives and professions. In doing so, it examines both the challenges and successes of an ambitious attempt to provide universal HIV treatment with limited money, infrastructure, and human resources. As well as an important case study, the book also offers an analytic framework to address the processes by which global policy is made and implemented. Engagingly written, Health on Delivery will be interesting reading for students and scholars of both anthropology and public health, as well as related disciplines such as geography, international politics and world development. It will also appeal to the general reader interested in global health policies and world development.

After sixty years, Kristine Keese is finally able to share the memories of her years spent in the Warsaw Ghetto as a small child. She owes her survival, and that of her young uncle, to the striking resourcefulness of her mother. The story emerges as vividly as if it happened yesterday, full of details that only a child would notice. Although the the events of the Warsaw Ghetto and the fate of its victims has been described many times, Keese's story is exceptional, as it is told through the eyes of, not a victim, but a child engaged with her daily reality focused on survival.

From a leading scholar on conservatism, the extraordinary chronicle of how the transformation of the American far right made the Trump presidency possible—and what it portends for the future Since Trump's victory and the UK's Brexit vote, much of the commentary on the populist epidemic has focused on the emergence of populism. But, Lawrence Rosenthal argues, what is happening globally is not the emergence but the transformation of right-wing populism. Rosenthal, the founder of UC Berkeley's Center for Right-Wing Studies, suggests right-wing populism is a protean force whose prime mover is the resentment felt toward perceived cultural elites, and whose abiding feature is its ideological flexibility, which now takes the form of xenophobic nationalism. In 2016, American right-wing populists migrated from the free marketeering Tea Party to Donald Trump's "hard hat," anti-immigrant, America-First nationalism. This was the most important single factor in Trump's electoral victory and it has been at work across the globe. In Italy, for example, the Northern League reinvented itself in 2018 as an all-Italy party, switching its fury from southerners to immigrants, and came to power. Rosenthal paints a vivid sociological, political, and psychological picture of the transnational quality of this movement, which is now in power in at least a dozen countries, creating a de facto Nationalist International. In America and abroad, the current mobilization of right-wing populism has given life to long marginalized threats like white supremacy. The future of democratic politics in the United States and abroad depends on whether the liberal and left parties have the political capacity to mobilize with a progressive agenda of their own.
