The Ghosts of Rupert Mansion

The Ghosts of Rupert Mansion

Robert L Bailey

Peppertree Press

At one time it must have been a spectacular home, one of the most beautiful in the state. But age, vagrants and vandals had taken a toll. Located in a remote rural area, the mansion had been abandoned more than a hundred years ago. Shoulder-high scrub brush had grown up around the mansion. Windows had been broken. Vagrants had kept warm in the winter by building a fire in an old wash tub inside. Intrigued by the mansion's original beauty and its history, John Wallace, just six and a half years out of The Ohio State University, saw its potential, bought it, and decided to restore it to its former magnificence, despite its reputation of being haunted. John faced crisis after crisis. But the mansion's ghosts played a prominent role in helping John complete the project.
An Ethnohistorian in Rupert's Land

An Ethnohistorian in Rupert's Land

Jennifer S.H. Brown

For four decades, Jennifer S. H. Brown has examined the complex relationships that developed among the newcomers to Rupert's Land and the existing Algonquian communities – who hosted and tolerated the fur traders – and later, the missionaries, anthropologists, and others who found their way into Indigenous lives and territories. The eighteen essays gathered in this book explore Brown's investigations into the surprising range of interactions among Indigenous people and newcomers as they met or observed one another from a distance, and as they competed, compromised, and rejected or adapted to change. As a whole, this volume represents the scholarly evolution of one of the leading ethnohistorians in Canada and the United States.

The Black Legend of Prince Rupert's Dog

The Black Legend of Prince Rupert's Dog

Mark Stoyle

University of Exeter Press

This compelling book from Mark Stoyle sets out to uncover the true history of Boy, the canine companion of Charles I’s famous nephew, Prince Rupert. Like his master, Boy was held to possess dark powers and was elevated to celebrity status as a ‘dog-witch’ during the English Civil War of 1642-46. Many scholars have remarked upon the fantastical rumours which circulated about Prince Rupert and his dog, but no-one has investigated the source of these rumours, or explored how the supernatural element of the prince’s public image developed over time. In this book, Mark Stoyle recounts the occult stories which centred upon Prince Rupert and his dog. He shows how those stories grew out of, and contributed to, the changing pattern of witch-belief in England during the Civil War. Shortlisted for the Folklore Society’s Katharine Briggs Award 2012.

Aubany Winters' life soon becomes a nightmare when her Mom gets cancer and has to leave for California with her Dad. Left with her neighbours, the Ruperts, and to her displeasure, their son Ryan, she finds herself forced to tag along on their family vacation to Nula Island. There's just a few problems, like her fear of the ocean, her and Ryan's mutual hatred for each other, and the psycho girl who is trying to kill them. Will Aubany overcome her fears? Will she and Ryan ever stop hating each other? Or will their flaws and disagreements lead them right into the enemy's hands?
Surviving Spring Break With Ryan Rupert
It's been seven months since Aubany's nightmare vacation to Nula Island--where she not only fell in love with her snarky neighbor, Ryan Rupert, but survived a brutal stabbing to the gut. Now, Aubany has been invited by her friend Lewis to his family's cabin in the mountains of Blakesky for Spring Break. However, memories of Courtney attacking her still plague her--even though it's been months since her last sighting. Not to mention that Ryan has started avoiding conversations about the future together, and the town of Blakesky has a strange, unsettling history surrounding it. But nothing could possibly bring Courtney back into their lives after all this time, and things with her and Ryan are fine... Or at least, that's what Aubany's determined to believe--except Aubany's no safer in Blakesky than she was on Nula Island, and she's about to discover a dark secret that will not only threaten her and Ryan's relationship... but could bring her face to face with death once more.
The Prisoner of Zenda and Rupert of Hentzau
Sir Anthony Hope Hawkins was training to become a lawyer and barrister when he wrote his sixth novel, "The Prisoner of Zenda", in 1894. It took one month to finish the first draft, and it quickly achieved such great success that Hope turned to writing full-time. The story is set in the fictional country of Ruritania, on the eve of the new king's coronation. When the king is suddenly abducted, an Englishman who bears a striking resemblance to him is brought in as a political decoy. Like most of Hope's stories, the novel is full of plot twists, complications, villains, forbidden love, and an ultimate sense of duty. Also included in this volume is the sequel to "The Prisoner of Zenda", "Rupert of Hentzau", which deals with the same fictional country, and many of the same characters. These two works are classics of English literature, whose themes and attraction transcend time, and have inspired many stage, film and television adaptations. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper.
