Today’s real-world problems and applications in sensory systems and target detection require efficient, comprehensive and fault-tolerant multi-sensor allocation. This book presents the theory and applications of novel methods developed for such sophisticated systems. It discusses the advances in multi-agent systems and AI along with collaborative control theory and tools. Further, it examines the formulation and development of an allocation framework for heterogeneous multi-sensor systems for various real-world problems that require sensors with different performances to allocate multiple tasks, with unknown a priori priorities that arrive at unknown locations at unknown time. It demonstrates how to decide which sensor to allocate to which tasks when and where. Lastly, it explains the reliability and availability issues of task allocation systems, and includes methods for their optimization. The presented methods are explained, measured, and evaluated by extensive simulations, and the results of these simulations are presented in this book. This book is an ideal resource for academics, researchers and graduate students as well as engineers and professionals and is relevant for various applications such as sensor network design, multi-agent systems, task allocation, target detection, and team formation.

Noah Purifoy made art in order to enact social change. Created mostly from found objects, his neo-Dadaist sculpture both embodies and reflects the environment in which it was created - whether the burnt ruins of the 1966 Watts Riots or the unforgiving climate of the Mojave Desert. This book follows Purifoy's remarkable life and career, during which he transitioned from high-end furniture designer to assemblage artist, social worker, arts administrator and finally creator of a desert art museum. Illustrated throughout with works from every stage of Purifoy's career, this volume also includes essays by acclaimed curators, critics, journalists and fellow artists - all champions of this profoundly thoughtful sculptor whose work has been under recognized for far too long. Published in association with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

"In this book, Morland, Lehmann, and Karpyn discuss the critical need for healthy food financing programs as a vehicle to improve food access for all Americans. In my career as a public servant, there are very few legislative achievements that I’m prouder of than the Healthy Food Financing Initiative, which started in my home state of Pennsylvania. The program gained status as a proven and economically sustainable federal program that is helping to improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods: by allowing millions access to healthy, affordable food."– Congressman Dwight EvansUnited States House of Representatives, Pennsylvania, District 3"If we work together, we can create a healthy food system that is equitable and accessible to all. This book highlights the importance of healthy food projects like grocery stores, farmers markets, co-ops, and other healthy food retail in revitalizing local communities across the country. Without basic nourishment, kids and families simply won’t be successful – which is why this book is a must read."– Sam KassPresident Obama’s Senior Nutrition Policy Advisor and Executive Director of Let’s Move!"Morland and colleagues’ new second edition provides an excellent foundation for courses in food policy and community nutrition. Their detailed review of the economics of local and national food financing will open students’ minds to the complexity inherent in measuring and interpreting outcomes."– Robert S. Lawrence, MD, MACPFounder and Former Director of the Center for a Livable FutureJohns Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Public HealthFeatures? Describes how disparities in food access formed in the United States ? Includes federal policies and programs aimed at addressing food access in underserved areas, including the Healthy Food Financing Initiative ? Features examples of state initiatives that address poor access to food retailers ? Provides methods for program evaluation utilizing principals of implementation and dissemination science ? Includes critical thinking questions and embedded videos aimed to generate discussions on how restricted local food environments in the United States are rooted in economic disparities that impact food access as well as housing, education, and job opportunities
