"Le Byron Des Dames: Or, Portraits Of The Principal Female Characters In Lord Byron's Poems" offers a fascinating glimpse into the iconic women who populated Lord Byron's poetic imagination. This volume provides insightful portrayals of the female figures that captivated readers of Byron's time, exploring their significance within his broader literary works. Examining characters from poems such as "Don Juan" and "Childe Harold's Pilgrimage", the book delves into Byron's complex and often romanticized depictions of women. Enhanced by the contributions of William Finden and Edward Francis Finden, this work provides both literary analysis and visual representations, offering a multifaceted understanding of Byron's enduring legacy. For enthusiasts of Romantic poetry and those interested in the intersection of literature and portraiture, "Le Byron Des Dames" offers a unique and enriching perspective on one of history's most celebrated poets. "The Narrative Of The Honourable John Byron... With A Description Of St. Jago De Chili" recounts the harrowing experiences of John Byron, a British naval officer and grandfather of the poet Lord Byron, following the wreck of the HMS Wager off the coast of Patagonia in 1741. This gripping first-hand account details the survivors' struggle for survival against the elements, starvation, and hostile indigenous populations. Byron's unflinching prose brings to life the brutal realities of 18th-century maritime exploration and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of unimaginable adversity. Beyond its value as an adventure story, the narrative offers a fascinating glimpse into the geography and culture of South America during this period, with particular attention paid to the city of St. Jago de Chili (Santiago). Byron's observations provide valuable insights into the social, political, and economic landscape of the region, making this work an important historical document as well as a thrilling read. The Regency period in general, and the aristocrat-poet Lord Byron in particular, were notorious for scandal, but the historical circumstances of this phenomenon have yet to be properly analysed. Lord Byron and Scandalous Celebrity explores Byron's celebrity persona in the literary, social, political and historical contexts of Regency Britain and post-Napoleonic Europe that produced it. Clara Tuite argues that the Byronic enigma that so compelled contemporary audiences - and provoked such controversy with its spectacular Romantic Satanism - can be understood by means of 'scandalous celebrity', a new form of ambivalent fame that mediates between notoriety and traditional forms of heroic renown. Examining Byron alongside contemporary figures including Caroline Lamb, Stendhal, Napoleon Bonaparte and Lord Castlereagh, Tuite illuminates the central role played by Byron in the literary, political and sexual scandals that mark the Regency as a vital period of social transition and emergent celebrity culture.

A leading figure in Romanticism and a political campaigner committed to social reform, Lord Byron (1788–1824) is regarded as one of the greatest of British poets. First published in 1922, this two-volume work is a compilation of letters Byron wrote between 1808 and 1824 to some of his close friends, including Lady Melbourne, John Cam Hobhouse, a fellow-student at Cambridge, and Percy Bysshe Shelley. The introduction and biographical notes by the publisher John Murray IV (1851–1928), grandson of Byron's own publisher John Murray II, supplement the letters and restore their narrative thread. Volume 1 covers the period 1808–15, from the trip Byron took across Europe with Hobhouse as a young man to his marriage to Anne Isabella Milbanke. A large portion of the volume is devoted to Byron's letters to Lady Melbourne, in which he reveals the many details of his tormented love life.

Three appendices provide additional perspectives, and include letters from Anne Isabella Milbanke (to whom Byron was briefly married), and his rejected lover Lady Caroline Lamb.
The Narrative of the Honourable John Byron, Commodore in a Late Expedition round the World
John Byron (1723–86) died a vice-admiral, having earned the nickname 'Foulweather Jack' after much experience on rough seas. In 1741 he was a midshipman aboard HMS Wager in a squadron sent to attack Spanish ships off Chile. Shipwrecked in a storm after rounding Cape Horn, the majority of the survivors turned on their captain and attempted to make their own way home. Byron was among the group who stayed with the commanding officer. In 1768, now a commodore, he published this account of the five harrowing years it took to get back to England, by which time he was one of only four survivors. Although no doubt written to give his side of the story, it appealed to a public eager for tales of dramatic endurance against the odds. Aboard the Beagle on Darwin's voyage, the book also informed the shipwreck in Don Juan by the author's grandson.
