‘Bridget Jones meets menopause…sharp, funny and real’ Cecelia Ahern Lay on the couch for a brief nap. Woke up an hour later, the witch trials book I’m reading stuck to one side of my face. Pretending not to be menopausal is exhausting. When fifty-year-old Agatha Doyle starts keeping a diary, it records only the ways she doesn’t know who she is any more. Her glorious empty nest is full of people. And her head is full of brain fog. All it takes to tip her over the edge is a pair of red velvet heels and a man who won’t stop talking. Standing up for herself, Agatha unwittingly becomes a heroine for midlife women everywhere. But with a distant husband, and an even more distant sex life, can she also become the heroine of her own life? Readers LOVE Queen Bee! ‘I haven’t laughed this hard in years!’ ????? ‘Agatha became my hero’ ????? ‘A complete hoot’ ????? ‘Agatha Doyle is the poster girl for a new generation’ ????? –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– ‘Laugh-out-loud funny with a spikily endearing heroine who runs full tilt at the menopause with a baseball bat in her hands . . . Fast-paced and hilarious’ CATHY KELLY ‘Bridget Jones meets menopause . . . sharp, funny and real’ CECELIA AHERN ‘I loved this book. Hilarious, perceptive, empathetic. Readers will utterly identify with and adore the superbly drawn Agatha’ PATRICIA SCANLAN ’Witty, poignant and a complete page turner’ SINEAD MORIARTY ’Agatha is a marvellous creation – that voice is so compelling, so snappy, so real – and I’ll miss her ROISIN MEANEY ’What a book! Timely, laden with humour . . . it has everything – female friendship and empowerment, family relationships with all their fun and tragedy’ FIONNUALA KEARNEY ‘Funny, searingly honest, at times tender and poignant. Two girls embark on a summer of montage-worthy dates (with a few strings attached) in this hilarious and heartfelt lesbian rom-com that's perfect for fans of Becky Albertalli and Jenny Han. Seventeen-year-old cynic Saoirse Clarke isn't looking for a relationship. But when she meets mischievous Ruby, that rule goes right out the window. Sort of. Because Ruby has a loophole in mind: a summer of all the best clich movie montage dates, with a definite ending come fall--no broken hearts, no messy breakup. It would be the perfect plan, if they weren't forgetting one thing about the Falling in Love Montage: when it's over, the characters have fallen in love...for real. Ciara Smyth's debut is a delightful, multilayered YA rom-com that will make you laugh, cry, and absolutely fall in love.

Perfect for fans of Becky Albertalli and Nina LaCour, this queer coming-of-age story from the author of The Falling in Love Montage is wry, multilayered, and unflinchingly honest. Aideen has plenty of problems she can't solve. But when she stumbles upon overachiever Meabh Kowalska having a full-blown meltdown, she sees one that she can actually fix. Meabh is desperate to escape her crushing pile of extracurriculars. Aideen volunteers to help--by pushing her down the stairs. Problem? Solved. Meabh's sprained ankle is the perfect excuse to ditch her overwhelming schedule. But when one of their classmates learns about their little scheme, more "clients" start asking for Aideen's "help"--kicking off a semester of traded favors, ill-advised hijinks, and even an unexpected chance at love. Fixing other people's problems won't fix her own. But it might be the push Aideen needs to start.

Ordinary Lives, Death, and Social Class focuses on the evolution of the Dublin City Coroner's Court and on Dr Louis A. Bryne's first two years in office. Wrapping itself around the 1901 census, the study uses gender, power, and blame as analytical frameworks to examine what inquests can tell us about the impact of urban living from lifecycle and class perspectives. Coroners' inquests are a combination of eyewitness testimony, expert medico-legal language, detailed minutiae of people, places, and occupational identities pinned to a moment in time. Thus they have a simultaneous capacity to reveal histories from both above and below. Rich in geographical, socio-economic, cultural, class, and medical detail, these records collated in a liminal setting about the hour of death bear incredible witness to what has often been termed 'ordinary lives'. The subjects of Dr Byrne's court were among the poorest in Ireland and, apart from common medical causes problems linked to lower socio-economic groups, this volume covers preventable cases of workplace accidents, neglect, domestic abuse, and homicide.

My name is Ivy Ravenstorm, and this is my journal. Not a diary. Diaries are so... Pre-adolescent. I like to think up stories. I used to think of bedtime stories for my little sister when we were younger, and a whole other kind of story to tell my older sister, when she caught me coming into the house, late at night, after sneaking out to ride my horse. This particular story, however, is true, and begins with the words ''England?! We're being sent to England?!''

Why We Remember: Unlocking Memory's Power to Hold on to What Matters
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - LOS ANGELES TIMES BESTSELLER - Memory is far more than a record of the past. In this groundbreaking tour of the mind and brain, one of the world's top memory researchers reveals the powerful role memory plays in nearly every aspect of our lives, from recalling faces and names, to learning, decision-making, trauma and healing. A BEST SCIENCE BOOK OF THE YEAR: Financial Times, Smithsonian Magazine, The Telegraph, Waterstones, The Times, Marie Claire, Greater Good Magazine, Bookshop.org "Why We Remember offers a radically new and engaging explanation of how and why we remember." --Dr. Matthew Walker, author of Why We Sleep A new understanding of memory is emerging from the latest scientific research. In Why We Remember, pioneering neuroscientist and psychologist Charan Ranganath radically reframes the way we think about the everyday act of remembering. Combining accessible language with cutting-edge research, he reveals the surprising ways our brains record the past and how we use that information to understand who we are in the present, and to imagine and plan for the future. Memory, Dr. Ranganath shows, is a highly transformative force that shapes how we experience the world in often invisible and sometimes destructive ways. Knowing this can help us with daily remembering tasks, like finding our keys, and with the challenge of memory loss as we age. What's more, when we work with the brain's ability to learn and reinterpret past events, we can heal trauma, shed our biases, learn faster, and grow in self-awareness. Including fascinating studies and examples from pop culture, and drawing on Ranganath's life as a scientist, father, and child of immigrants, Why We Remember is a captivating read that unveils the hidden role memory plays throughout our lives. When we understand its power-- and its quirks--we can cut through the clutter and remember the things we want to remember. We can make freer choices and plan a happier future.
