Das Buch analysiert die Kriegs- und Reiseberichte des Reisejournalisten und -filmemachers Colin Ross (1885-1945). Ross galt in der Weimarer Republik als einer der popularsten Vertreter der geopolitisch interessierten Reiseberichterstattung. Als hoechst relevant erweist sich dabei der Umgang von Ross und seinem Publikum mit dem reiseliterarisch gepragten Topos des Abenteuers sowie der Gattung des Kriegsberichts. Durch die jeweilige Adaptierung seiner Kriegserfahrung und des Abenteuer-Elements konnte Ross seine Werke fur ideologisch und kulturell unterschiedlich orientierte Publika aufbereiten. Die Autorin vergleicht die deutschen und oesterreichischen Produktions- und Rezeptionsbedingungen und gibt Aufschluss daruber, wie sich diese Kultfigur einen festen Platz in der OEffentlichkeit sichern konnte.
