Matteo Ricci and the Missionary Role in the Evolution of Chinese Lexicon
This is a systematic study of Matteo Ricci’s (1552–610) enormous impact on the development of modern scientific and intellectual terminology in China.Taking the Sino-estern cultural exchanges initiated by Western Jesuit missionaries in the late-ing dynasty as its starting point, this book comprehensively presents the new terms coined by Ricci (and his collaborators) in his religious, geographical, geometrical, and astronomical Chinese writings. It uses a multitude of examples adopted from Ricci’s Chinese works as well as from ancient Chinese documents to discuss etymological evolution. Ricci’s early coinages of terms and their subsequent history demonstrate the role of interaction and scholarly collaboration between the late Ming Jesuits and Chinese intellectuals in the formation of modern Chinese lexicon. The research conclusions of this book will further advance Ming-ynasty studies and contribute to a new understanding of the creation of modern Chinese lexicon. This book is a vital resource for students, scholars, and linguists studying and researching in the history of Chinese and early Mandarin. This volume will also be very interesting among students and scholars of Chinese literature and history, particularly among scholars who work in Ming history and literature. The Open Access version of this book, available at www.taylorfrancis.com, has been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives (CC-BY-NC-ND) 4.0 International license

Have you ever prayed fervently for others' healing while battling a debilitating illness of your own? Have you endured the humiliation of chronic illness caused by hidden trauma, misunderstood and judged by a world that sees only the surface? In Matters of the Heart: The Healing God, an awe-inspiring journey of faith, resilience, and divine intervention unfolds. What do you do when life's storms rage against your body, mind, and spirit? When the echoes of past trauma manifest in chronic pain, and the world judges without understanding? This book invites readers into a journey of profound introspection and hope, uncovering the truths behind healing, faith, and the resilience of the human spirit. One striking statement from the book declares, "Healing is more than the mending of physical wounds; it is the restoration of the soul to align with the divine." This pivotal truth weaves through every chapter, guiding readers to understand that while pain and hardship are real, so is the unlimited power of Jehovah Rapha, the God who heals. This edition delves into the sacred interplay of surrender, trust, and faith, showcasing that miracles occur not only in visible transformations but also in the unseen renewal of the heart. Another powerful reflection states, "True healing begins when we stop asking, 'Why me' and start declaring, 'In You, I trust.'" The book explores how diseases originate and how past traumas influence physical and emotional pain. It unpacks the pivotal role of faith, weaving through the principles of surrender, trust, and the divine promise of restoration. The narrative illustrates that healing transcends the physical it's about aligning the soul with God's purpose. This edition delves into the sacred balance of body, mind, and spirit, recounting transformative experiences that highlight miracles both seen and unseen. The book assures readers that no matter the storm, the ultimate healer is ever-present, ready to renew and restore. Matters of the Heart: The Healing God is for anyone navigating illness, trauma, or the emotional wounds of life. It is a timeless testament to a God who does not abandon His children but transforms their pain into a story of triumph and grace. Through every page, readers will find the courage to believe, the strength to persevere, and the assurance of healing that transcends all understanding
