ENGLISH DESCRIPTION "It is, at the same time, a descent into hell and a book about what makes us human." --Junot D az A month after being forced to leave El Salvador upon receiving a death threat for insulting the president, our drunk and sex addict narrator faces a rare assignment: reviewing a report that details perfectly the genocide suffered by indigenous peoples in a Central-American country. What at first seems like a promising job will become an endless task clouded by suspicion: a descent into hell by those who survived unspeakable carnage, bifront creatures of fascination and horror. Opening Pandora's box, revealing what happened not so long ago at that place where he now lives as a recluse will leave him at the mercy of crimes that somehow don't belong exclusively in the past, but are lurking close. Horacio Castellanos Moya is the author of the best portrait ever written about the terror, the paranoia, and the fear that follow the horrors perpetrated in Central-American countries. Once again, we confirm the extraordinary narrative pulse of an expert in examining the health of a continent installed in perpetual anguish.

As El Salvador returns to peace after more than a decade of civil war, Eduardo Sosa, an unemployed sociologist, becomes fascinated by a homeless man who lives in a beat-up yellow Chevrolet parked across the street from his sister’s apartment. An unexpected turn of events causes Sosa to assume the other man’s identity. When he becomes the driver of the mysterious yellow Chevrolet, Sosa discovers that it is home to four poisonous snakes. With the snakes as accomplices, Sosa unleashes a reign of terror on the city of San Salvador. Dance With Snakes is a macabre high-speed romp, in which violence and comedy become almost indistinguishable. The non-stop action raises provocative questions about social exclusion and the role of the media, but this novel by the author of the acclaimed Senselessness also evokes the tenderness of relations among those on society’s margins.

Current Issues in Nursing

The editors' intention in the production of this book was to provide a realistic picture of the present state of nursing. This has been presented from a number of different but inter-linked perspectives. The decades since the inception of the National Health Service have been ones of significant change, both in society at large and in the field of health care. The period has witnessed political, economic, social, scientific and technological change taking place ever more rapidly; whilst, in terms of health care, demand and expectations continue to increase apace. Nursing, throughout the period, has been influenced by, and has responded to, these prevailing influences, and continues to do so. Contributors to this volume have sought to examine in depth some of the current issues in nursing at the present time. Each chapter examines a specific issue in the current nursing context and is, therefore, capable of standing alone. But considered together the chapters enable many aspects of the current debate on, and development of, nursing to be seen as a whole. It is hoped that this book will serve two fundamental purposes. First, to stimulate debate and activity by all nurses in their particular sphere of influence, and in the wider world of nursing. Second, it aims to inform those undertaking pre-or post-registra tion nursing programmes and thus assist their understanding of the state of nursing.

More than four million Spaniards came to the Western Hemisphere between the mid-nineteenth century and the Great Depression. Unlike that of most other Europeans, their major destination was Argentina, not the United States. Studies of these immigrants--mostly laborers and peasants--have been scarce in comparison with studies of other groups of smaller size and lesser influence. Presenting original research within a broad comparative framework, Jose C. Moya fills a considerable gap in our knowledge of immigration to Argentina, one of the world's primary "settler" societies. Moya moves deftly between micro- and macro-analysis to illuminate the immigration phenomenon. A wealth of primary sources culled from dozens of immigrant associations, national and village archives, and interviews with surviving participants in Argentina and Spain inform his discussion of the origins of Spanish immigration, residence patterns, community formation, labor, and cultural cognitive aspects of the immigration process. In addition, he provides valuable material on other immigrant groups in Argentina and gives a balanced critique of major issues in migration studies.
