A Rainbow Story with Sofia and Matisse
Discover the magic of Rainbow Beach Join Sofia and Matisse as they learn about the land's secrets, play in the golden sands and share stories with those they meet. Real adventures with real friends in a truly special place. In today's global community, the friction of multiculturalism is felt in every corner of the world. For children growing up in such a world, understanding the harmony and conflict of cultures is crucial. Australia, with its historical wound of terra nullius, represents a poignant example of the challenges and opportunities that arise when many cultures come together. The lack of representation and understanding of First Nations' history and rights can lead to a gap in young Australians' knowledge and empathy towards their own country's diverse heritage.Imagine a generation of children growing up with only a fragmented sense of their nation's soul, unaware of the deep scars left by policies like terra nullius, or the vibrant tapestry of cultures that is contemporary Australia. Without addressing this, we risk perpetuating a cycle of misunderstanding and cultural disconnect that can feed prejudice and social division. The very fabric of Australia's rich and diverse society depends on our children's ability to embrace and celebrate the multitude of cultures that call this land home. "A Rainbow Beach Story with Sofia and Matisse" is a bridge between worlds. Through the eyes of two engaging characters, children will embark on a journey that uncovers the layers of Australia's cultural landscape. They'll learn about the concept of terra nullius and discover the resilience and wisdom of First Nations people, fostering respect and understanding from a young age. This book is an invitation for young minds to explore the complexities of multiculturalism, to recognize past wounds, and to see how diversity is not just a challenge to overcome but a strength to celebrate. Open the pages, and let's nurture a generation of healers, thinkers, and bridge-builders for a more inclusive and harmonious future. How do you craft a world where the vibrancy of language, the depth of cultural understanding, and a passion for shaping young minds come together? A Rainbow Bridge: A memoir of my childhood in Manchuria
The author Akiko Hisataka, the eldest daughter of martial arts master Kori Hisataka, was born in Manchuria, a puppet state created by Japan in northeastern China and inner Mongolia in 1932 which lasted until 1945, collapsing with the defeat of Japan in World War II. At the time of Manchuria's collapse, all Japanese residents were forced to quickly flee back to Japan. For young Akiko, this was an escape to a country that she had only heard vague stories of and had never seen. The story begins with the author's father leaving Japan, on an ambitious journey across Asia and into the wider world during his youth. This leads into the story of Akiko, her parents, younger siblings and schoolmates. It follows her joyful childhood days, where she dreamed about her parents' home country of Japan while unbeknownst to her, World War II raged on. Her peaceful days came to an abrupt end with Russia's invasion into Manchuria, breaking the Soviet-Japanese Neutrality Pact. As a young girl, the author and her family suddenly began their long and dangerous repatriation journey along with the other Japanese residents of Manchuria. During this journey, the Japanese refugees learned of the end of the war and had to come to terms with what had been unthinkable: Japan's defeat. This story is a memoir of the author's childhood days - a peaceful life shockingly changed into a chaotic journey of repatriation - and the inner growth that she experienced throughout these trying experiences.

A Rainy June, and Other Stories (Esprios Classics)
Maria Louise Ram (1839-1908) was an English author. She wrote under the pen name Ouida. She wrote more than 40 novels, children's books and collections of short stories and essays. She was an animal rights activist and animal rescuer, and at times owned as many as thirty dogs. Her work went through several phases during her career. In her early period, her novels were a hybrid of the sensationalism of the 1860s and the proto-adventure novels dubbed "muscular fiction" that were emerging in part as a romanticization of imperial expansion. Later her work was more along the lines of historical romance, though she never stopped commenting on contemporary society. Sympathetic portraits of tragic painters and singers fill her later novels.
