AlecAs an ex-cowboy who travelled the rodeo circuit, I was good at two things: roping and, after a bit of heartbreak, denying that I was looking for a man to warm my bed permanently.I left that scene and settled in working at the Broken Horn Ranch. I was still good at denying the loneliness that kept creeping in, but the animals on the ranch and my plants kept me company. And so did my best friend of three years, Zane.Since I was so good at denying things, there was no way in God's green acre I was going to tell my straight best friend that I'd fallen for him.Yep, I'd just live my life out with the violets on my windowsill and carry that torch to my grave. But sometimes things don't go as planned.ZaneWhen you're close to forty, you should have your life figured out; job, home... and your sexuality.I've never been one to follow the path of what's expected and it's hard to settle down when you don't feel the connection needed for warming up the cold winter nights. Except with Alec. After months of dealing with a tiny mid-life crisis, grappling with these newfound and unexpected feelings, I know I'm in love with my best friend. When a piece of his rodeo past shows up at the ranch, it's the motivation I need to openly claim the man who's lassoed my heart.I might not know exactly what I'm doing on this unfamiliar path...But for Alec, I want to walk it-together.Alec is the third and final book in The Broken Horn Ranch Series. Prepare for a trouble making raccoon, a peacock that can't be contained, big belt buckles at a cowboy auction and SO MANY CAMEOS. Demisexuality and high intimacy with the most patient man you'll ever meet can be found here. While it's made to stand alone, you may enjoy it more if you read the prior books first. Oh, and an epilogue that just might make you blush.

The music of Alec Wilder (1907-1980) blends several American musical traditions, such as jazz and the American popular song, with classical European forms and techniques. Stylish and accessible, Wilder's musical oeuvre ranged from sonatas, suites, concertos, operas, ballets, and art songs to woodwind quintets, brass quintets, jazz suites, and hundreds of popular songs. In this biography and critical investigation of Wilder's music, Philip Lambert chronicles Wilder's early work as a part-time student at the Eastman School of Music, his ascent through the ranks of the commercial recording industry in New York City in the 1930s and 1940s, his turn toward concert music from the 1950s onward, and his devotion late in his life to the study of American popular songs of the first half of the twentieth century. The book discusses some of his best-known music, such as the revolutionary octets and songs such as "I'll Be Around," "While We're Young," and "Blackberry Winter," and explains the unique blend of cultivated and vernacular traditions in his singular musical language.

One of the few American composers to earn an international reputation in both classical and popular music, Alec Wilder (1907-1980) was a true innovator in every phase of composition he chose to pursue. In addition, his life and associations in the world of music, theatre, literature, and the arts make for fascinating reading, and his own writings in these areas are witty and insightful. His many hundreds of musical compositions, ranging from chamber and orchestral music, to opera and ballet, theatre and film, and art songs and popular songs, are documented and annotated here in an exhaustive catalog of works. Included are detailed performance information and cross references to recordings in a discography section and reviews and commentary in a fully annotated bibliography of writings by and about the composer. The book also includes a lively biographical sketch capturing the sense and style of the composer and his times, a summary of archival materials held at the Eastman School of Music, an appendix of awards, a directory of music publishers, a chronological list of compositions, and an index. It is hoped that this thorough compendium to aid in the growing scholarly and musical interest in Wilder will serve to expose his work to wider audiences, while also helping to ferret out missing or unknown manuscripts given away to friends and performers by the composer.

On the point of expiration, octogenarian Alec Dodgson, a logic buff, is shunted via a space-time wormhole to a primitive village on a far-off tidally-locked planet. The inhabitants, one of whom is Alec's father, have been brought thither at various times by similar means. Tradition holds that they find themselves in purgatory. Among other things, Alec learns that certain of the laws of logic seem to failing locally, resulting in the actualization of "unactualized possible," or fictional, characters. Alec falls in love with a somewhat enigmatic villager called Grace, and eventually sets out with her and his father on an arduous journey to a place called Kew, where, so it's rumoured, their state of suspense can be resolved expeditiously. On the way they encounter two claimants to the French crown, a religious sect of "Morrons" given to cultivating large bunions, a Russian ogre, fallen angels, and a neanderthal settlement, and achieve enlightenment as to the divine administration of the universe. They pursue their goal until overwhelmed by increasingly radical logical aberrations.
