Aceito por diversas classes sociais, ele vem crescendo de maneira significativa segundo dados do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estat sticas (IBGE). Trazida ao Brasil pelos negros, sobreviventes de tr fico de escravos entre os s culos XVIII e XIX, a religi o resistiu a duros golpes. O negro escravizado, sofrido, teve dificuldade de cultuar suas tradi es, motivo pelo qual sua vis o de mundo foi re-elaborada em um novo contexto e transmitida oralmente de pai para filho. Desta forma, a oralidade tornou-se o "pilar" de sustenta o da religi o no Brasil. Apesar de ser uma rea vasta, o candombl uma religi o ainda pouco estudada.
