Das Buch bietet einen komprimierten Überblick über die etablierten Strömungsmesstechniken einschließlich der neuen Entwicklungen auf dem Gebiet der bildgebenden Messverfahren. Im Vordergrund stehen dabei sowohl die messphysikalischen Grundlagen als auch die praktische Anwendungen der einzelnen Verfahren. Zu den behandelten Problemstellungen gehören zunächst die klassischen Aufgabenstellungen der Druck-, Geschwindigkeits-, Temperatur- und Wandreibungsmessung in Strömungsfeldern bzw. an Strömungskörpern mit Hilfe von Sonden und Sensoren. Einen zentralen Punkt bilden hier jedoch auch die modernen bildgebenden Messverfahren wie die Particle-Image-Velocimetry (PIV), die drucksensitiven Farben (PSP) oder die Infrarot-Thermografie. Diese flächigen Messmethoden werden im Einzelnen erläutert und an typischen Anwendungsbeispielen veranschaulicht. Darüber hinaus werden auch speziellere Probleme der Grenzschichtmesstechnik einschließlich der Anwendung von MEMS-Sensoren diskutiert. Einen gebührenden Raum nehmen die Methoden der Strömungsvisualisierung sowie das Kapitel Versuchsanlagen ein. Die abschließend dargestellten Methoden der Signalverarbeitung und -auswertung helfen, auch bei komplexeren Fragestellungen mit Hilfe der Signalanalyse die relevanten Strömungsphänomene aus den Messsignalen zu extrahieren.
