AXEL er den første uautoriserte biografien om Axel Jensens enestående kunstnerlivet. AXEL forteller om hvilke ideer og begivenheter som skapte ham, og om Axels eget bidrag til å skape den verdenen vi har rundt oss i dag. Axel var den siste av sitt slag. Nei, den eneste.Axel Jensen (1932-2003) var arvingen til et kjøttimperium som vendte ryggen til pølsene og i stedet ble opprører, eventyrer, sjømann og forfatter. En fluktvei, kalte han det. Han oppfattet seg som en outsider, både i den velstående familien og i skolemiljøet på Oslos vestkant, men han forble også en outsider i det litterære Norge – selv om han regnes som en av etterkrigstidens mest sentrale og nyskapende forfattere.Jensens liv ble et fantastisk, kaotisk og myteomspunnet eventyr som ofte gikk i ett med hans egne bøker. I livet og som forfatter var han en nomade og en kosmopolitt. «Hjem» var et fremmedord for Axel. Han var rusmisbruker, voldelig, en lystløgner, kronisk upålitelig i pengesaker og fullstendig uegnet som ektemann og far.

Trots allt detta skulle han aldrig bli helt lycklig, och en sommardag den 20 juni tog allt slut. Christian Gill (f.1974) är grundare av upplevelseföretaget CeMeClear, pedagog och utbildare på svensk och internationell nivå. Han är nu verksam i Stockholm där han bor med sin familj. AXEL är hans debut som författare och illustratör.

Med anledning av att Bo Carpelan skulle ha fyllt 100 år i år, utkommer en jubileumsutgåva av Axel. Romanen handlar om den misslyckade kompositören Axel Carpelan som var Jean Sibelius vän, ateljekritiker och inspiratör. Sibelius tillägnade Axel sin andra symfoni - ”den sällsynt begåfvade, djupt kännande, stort tänkande, sig sjelf förglömmande” - och när han dog skrev Sibelius: ”För vem skall jag nu komponera?” Romanen kretsar kring musiken och skapandet - och kring vikten av uppmuntran och vänskapligt stöd. Axel drömde om att bli violinist, men hans liv blev ensamt och sjukligt, och han öste osjälviskt ur sin begåvning när han stöttade sin bästa vän Sibelius. Det har gått 40 år sedan Bo Carpelans roman Axel utgavs för första gången år 1986. Boken blev Carpelans tyngst vägande prosaverk. I dagboksform skriver han fram inte bara vänskapen mellan Axel och ”Janne”, utan också en hel kulturepok, en bred skildring av Finlands väg mot självständigheten.
