The Adventures of Barry & Joe: Obama and Biden's Bromantic Battle for the Soul of America
Brothers from different mothers, bromancing history to save us from Trump. These are the continuing adventures of Barack Obama and Joe Biden, time traveling superheroes in search of a brighter future for America. Moments after the inauguration of our 45th President, best friends Barack Obama and Joe Biden were escorted to a secret lab run by the world's greatest scientists. They were asked to take off all their clothes and hold very still in a fetal position until they felt a painful tingling sensation. Then they vanished. They would awake to find themselves apart, and inside their younger bodies--driven to find each other and change history for the better. Their faithful guide on this journey is Samuel L. Jackson, a brilliant actor from the present who appears in the form of an augmented reality that only they can see and hear. And thus, they find themselves leaping through time, striving to right injustice wherever they find it, looking for a world which they can proudly call home.A visual feast that's both graphic and novel, this book is a love letter to cheesy science fiction and the two men who can still be counted on to inspire us. Featuring comics produced by Titmouse Inc (Big Mouth, The Venture Bros.), it's 224 pages of adventure that will melt your snowflake brain and give you hope for humanity at the same time.
The World of Samuel Adams

The World of Samuel Adams

A more unlikely Founding Father it would be hard to imagine. Samuel Adams, in appearance, was an extraordinarily ordinary man, a man unskillfully put together. Thus begins Donald Barr Chidsey's extraordinarily readable biography of the man he describes as the grandfather of his country, the man who laid the foundation. Adams, he tells us, was America's first machine politician, but he made "independence" a word to be respected. Here is the story of how Adams did it. It is also the story of a city, Boston, in those years between the end of the French and Indian War and the Second Continental Congress, a time when the docile English colonies turned into a nest of seething rebellion, a time when "that bainfull weed," tea, assumed outrageous importance, a time when the Sons of Liberty intimidated those who disagreed with them with the threat of tar and feathers.Adams and his contemperporaries step off these pages as large as life: Sam's cousin John, "the pugnacious second President of the United states," who "burned with indignation at all times"; William Pitt, adored in the American colonies, but a leader who led nobody in England; John Hancock, the richest man in New England, a peacock who "strutted and swished, iridescent, admiring himself"; Benjamin Franklin, a man with a twinkle in his eye; Sam Gray, whose rude remark to a soldier eventually led to the Boston Massacre; Captain Thomas Preston, who tried to prevent it.Told with honesty and wit, this book presents a biting picture of a turbulent time, with an affectionate portrait of Samuel Adams as its center, and a cast of characters important in early American life, who made up his world.

The Exile of Adam in Romans

This book investigates the “divine son” motif in Romans 5 and 8 through the lens of exile and restoration. David P. Barry presents a pattern of allusions to Israel and Adam and argues that Paul deliberately employs both themes to show their fulfillment in Christ. Both Adam’s exclusion from Eden and Israel’s exile from Palestine are, for Paul, a divine son falling short of God’s holiness and forfeiting the divine inheritance and presence. The themes of Adam and Israel are complementary examples of sin and separation from God, which Paul argues are reversed in Christ and for believers in union with him. This theme of “divine sons” provides a framework for interpreting Paul’s use of restoration prophecies in Romans 5 and 8. Various references to restoration prophecies (e.g., Ezek 36:22–37:14 in Rom 8:1–11) which were apparently given to ethnic Israel, are applied more broadly. The scope of fulfillment goes beyond its the ethnic boundary to include the spiritual children of Abraham: Jew and Gentile. Barry concludes that the exile is over in spirit, but continues in body. The new people of God are already spiritually restored to God’s presence by faith and will be bodily brought into God’s presence in glory.

Co-opetition offers a new way of thinking that combines competition and cooperation. It is the first book to adapt game theory to the needs of CEOs, managers and entrepreneurs. Though often compared to games like chess or poker, business is different - people are free to change the rules, the players, the boundaries, even the game itself. The essence of business success lies in making sure you are in the right game. Actively shaping which game you play, and how you play it, is the core of the innovative business strategy laid out in Co-opetition. Barry Nalebuff and Adam Brandenburger, professors at Yale and Harvard, are pioneers in the practice of applying the science of game theory to the art of corporate strategy. They have devised a practice-oriented model to help you break out of the traditional win-lose or lose-lose situations. Dozens of companies - including Intel, Nintendo, American Express and Nutrasweet - have been using the strategies of co-opetition to change their game and enjoy the benefits of win-win opportunities.

There has never been a more crucial time for an intimate and thorough examination of the ways in which sexuality informs people’s lives. In Living Sexuality: Stories of LGBTQ Relationships, Identities, and Desires, the authors use autoethnography and personal narrative to provide first-hand accounts of the connections between sexuality, particularly LGBTQ identities, and the everyday experiences of relationships. Each story also invites readers to understand how sexuality informs communication as it occurs within diverse cultural contexts. In addition, the stories often focus on taboo issues overlooked or ignored in mainstream research about sexuality. Discussion questions appear at the end of each story that should stimulate engagement by students, instructors, and researchers.
