Wiltshire contains some of the most important archaeological sites in Britain. Its Prehistoric remains include the breath-taking Stonehenge, awesome stone circle at Avebury , the enigma of Silbury Hill and a large number of hillforts. Among these important sites are also found smaller, perhaps lesser-known monuments of the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages, including the King Barrow cemetery and Woodhenge. Bob Clarke, author of numerous books on military archaeology and history, takes us on a tour of the prehistoric sites in this archaeologically-rich county, using aerial photography and outstanding images, which accompany the informative text. All proceeds from this book go to the Wiltshire Archaeological & Natural History Society's appeal to update the current Bronze Age Gallery at the museum in Devizes.
On 26 June 1954 a small private venture development aircraft built by Hunting Percival Ltd made the first of three proving flights at Luton. Driven by the performance of jet fighters in the Korean War the British Government sponsored the development of the aircraft - the Jet Provost. By 1959 the first 'All Through Jet Training' courses in the world were being run by the Royal Air Force. Over 500 aircraft were constructed for the RAF alone, in fact practically every Royal Air Force pilot from 1960 until 1988 had time on the aircraft. Jet Provost variants were sold to foreign powers including from 1966 the Strikemaster, a very effective counter insurgency and close ground support armed development. Since retirement the aircraft has gone on to be a popular private jet with examples flying all over the world. This is the first time all phases of the Jet Provost's development have been discussed and illustrated in one publication. Containing personal accounts, test and development results and presented against a backdrop of major political events this is the story of the Jet Provost - The little plane with a big history.
The shocking story of the first attack on mainland Britain for more than a century.
Britain's Cold War started in 1945 after the fall of Nazi Germany. With Europe split apart into spheres of influence, and East distrusting West, it soon became apparent that the next war would be between Communism and Capitalism. It was an idealogical war, fought not on the battlefields of Europe but in Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan and numerous other small-scale battlefields in Asia and Africa. With the threat of mutually assured destruction between the nuclear powers, the Cold War was about confrontation on a small scale, never between the superpowers, but with the might of the superpowers backing opposing sides. Britain became a mini fortress, with American lend-lease bases, missile sites, radar installations, airfields full of jets ready to scramble, as well as nuclear bunkers and command centres located in the countryside. Bob Clarke, author of Four Minute Warning: Britain's Cold War, takes us on a guided tour of Britain's Cold War, showing us the installations, the plans and just what would have happened if Britain had gone to war with the Eastern Bloc states.

This is a book all about the importance of wellbeing... A little bird, Remnant, was all alone in the woodland. As the clouds moved across the sky overhead the little bird looked up. The clouds seemed to be connecting together into an interesting shape. Follow this journey of wellbeing and togetherness as the interesting shape in the sky reveals that friendship is the greatest treasure of all.
Shake and Bake is the story of Archie Clark, one of the top playmaking guards in the 1970s pre-merger NBA. While not one of the game’s most recognized superstars, Clark was a seminal player in NBA history who staggered defenders with the game’s greatest crossover dribble (“shake and bake”) and is credited by his peers as the originator of today’s popular step-back move. Signed as the Lakers third-round draft pick in 1966, Clark worked his way into the starting lineup in his rookie year. But Clark was more than a guaranteed double-double whenever he stepped on the floor. He was a deep-thinking trailblazer for players’ rights. Clark often challenged coaches and owners on principle, much to the detriment of his career and NBA legacy, signing on as a named litigant in the seminal Robertson v. NBA antitrust case that smashed the player reserve system and jump-started the modern NBA. So lace up your high-top Chuck Taylors, squeeze into a pair of short shorts, and shake and bake back in time to the days of Wilt, Russell, Oscar, Jerry, Elgin, Hondo-and Archie.
