Hitting the Mark: The A-B-C's of Rating Your Customers & Sales Leads
"Hitting The Mark" is a special type of sales book that comes along even now and then to make a real impact on professional selling. Years in the making and fully field tested, the concepts in this book are solid and require no extra refinement or tweaking. As a general contractor, trade contractor, remodeler, renovator, home builder, carpenter, handyman, occupational therapist, physical therapist, interior designer, architect, durable medical equipment contractor, or anyone else who designs and sells solutions for general remodeling for homes or businesses, decorating updates, or aging-in-place treatments, you will get results as soon as you open the book and begin putting these concepts into practice.Whether you maintain an office or showroom where people come to you to see examples of products and discuss what you can do with them, or you go to them in their home or office to discuss their needs and propose solutions, you need a system of sorting through all of the people you meet and talk with (regardless of how that contact is originated) to identify the most interested ones and determine where to devote your time and focus.Without an objective, definitive way of rating all of these sales leads that you accumulate as you operate your business, and a way of determining who to spend your time with, it's easy to waste your energy on people who have very little or no interest in actually making a purchasing decision. At the other end of the spectrum is ignoring people who really are good candidates for making a decision because the chemistry wasn't there and you didn't connect with them or find any common ground. That's where this book becomes invaluable. It is based on the "ready, willing, and able" formula that most salespeople and small business owners are familiar with, but it adds a very important missing ingredient that turns this into the perfect rating system. For the first time, the three main criteria in evaluating someone's level of interest and ability to make a decision - "ready," "willing," and "able" - have been quantified and defined as objective criteria that will mean the same regardless of who uses them. Then the missing ingredient of how well someone likes you and your approach to their issues - and wants to do business with you - is added so that you can focus your time and energy where you have the highest probability of making a sale. This book lays out a system that takes all of the guesswork out of rating a customer according to their level of interest, ability to make a decision, and likelihood of doing business with you. No more subjectivity and shades of gray. Now a set of totally objective criteria can be applied, and you'll know instantly how likely someone is to make a decision to use your services or expertise to help them achieve the safety, comfort, convenience, security, accessibility, and peace-of-mind they are seeking in a renovation. The 8 chapters are: 1 - Why You Need A Rating System, 2 - The "Ready, Willing, And Able" Test, 3 - An "A" Rating Isn't Sufficient, 4 - Going Behind The Mark, 5 - Only A Few Can Be An "A-1," 6 - Don't Discount The "D"s, 7 - Marking Outside The Lines, and 8 - Getting The Most From Your Customers & Sales Leads. This is the last rating system you will ever need.
Fantastic Travelogue: Mark Twain and C.S. Lewis Talk Things over in The Hereafter
Fantastic Travelogue is speculative fiction, a phantasmic conversation between two literary giants, Mark Twain and C.S. Lewis. The talk and action are set in the dreamscape of creation--from creation's photonics and micro biology to its most outer energetic and cosmic origins. Other participants in the conversation include the Renaissance humanist and astronomer Johannes Kepler and the 19th century Scots romanticist George MacDonald. Together, rarely dropping the thread of story-telling and argumentation, throughout time and creation they range, sometimes losing themselves in the mystery and splendors encountered. By the author of Five Points Akropolis and The God's Cycle. Now with an introduction.
The mysterious stranger: a romance. By: Mark Twain, illustrated By: N. C. Wyeth: The Mysterious Stranger is the final novel attempted by the Am
The Mysterious Stranger is the final novel attempted by the American author Mark Twain. He worked on it periodically from 1897 through 1908. The body of work is a serious social commentary by Twain addressing his ideas of the Moral Sense and the "damned human race". Newell Convers Wyeth (October 22, 1882 - October 19, 1945), known as N. C. Wyeth, was an American artist and illustrator. He was the pupil of artist Howard Pyle and became one of America's greatest illustrators. During his lifetime, Wyeth created over 3,000 paintings and illustrated 112 books, 25 of them for Scribner's, the Scribner Classics, which is the work for which he is best known.... Samuel Langhorne Clemens (November 30, 1835 - April 21, 1910), better known by his pen name Mark Twain, was an American writer, entrepreneur, publisher and lecturer. Among his novels are The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) and its sequel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1885), the latter often called "The Great American Novel". Twain was raised in Hannibal, Missouri, which later provided the setting for Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. After an apprenticeship with a printer, Twain worked as a typesetter and contributed articles to the newspaper of his older brother, Orion Clemens. He later became a riverboat pilot on the Mississippi River before heading west to join Orion in Nevada. He referred humorously to his lack of success at mining, turning to journalism for the Virginia City Territorial Enterprise. In 1865, his humorous story "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" was published, based on a story he heard at Angels Hotel in Angels Camp, California, where he had spent some time as a miner. The short story brought international attention, and was even translated into classic Greek. His wit and satire, in prose and in speech, earned praise from critics and peers, and he was a friend to presidents, artists, industrialists, and European royalty.Though Twain earned a great deal of money from his writings and lectures, he invested in ventures that lost a great deal of money, notably the Paige Compositor, a mechanical typesetter, which failed because of its complexity and imprecision. In the wake of these financial setbacks, he filed for protection from his creditors via bankruptcy, and with the help of Henry Huttleston Rogers eventually overcame his financial troubles. Twain chose to pay all his pre-bankruptcy creditors in full, though he had no legal responsibility to do so

Her career is an illustration of the capacity of woman under stress of sorrow to conquer the world and be successful. Many of the plots of her stories are laid in Scotland and England. The scenes are from her girlhood recollection of surroundings. Her father was Reverend William Huddleston, a Wesleyan minister. She was brought up in an atmosphere of culture and refinement, and early turned to books for recreation and instruction. When only nine years of age she became her father's companion and reader. Thus it was she read books far beyond her comprehension, but they tended to develop her mental qualities. A brief return to her father's financial stability allowed Barr to return to the Normal School in Glasgow where she learned the Stowe teaching method. Its principles are based on morality and lifelong learning, rather than learning by rote.......... Charles Mark Relyea (April 23, 1863 - 1932) was an American illustrator whose work appeared in magazines and popular novels in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Relyea was a native of Albany, New York, and spent most of his early years in Rochester. He studied art under Thomas Eakins at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and under Frank Vincent DuMond at the Art Students League in New York City before completing his training in Paris. After returning to the United States, he made his home in New Rochelle, New York. His illustrations appeared in the children's magazine St. Nicholas, as well as magazines for broader audiences, such as Munsey's.In 1897, a publishing house chose Relyea to illustrate The Rubaiyat of Doc Sifers, Hoosier poet James Whitcomb Riley's poem satirizing The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. Because Relyea was not from Indiana, Riley insisted that he visit the state before making his drawings, to ensure that he would not misrepresent Indiana or caricature its residents....
Mark Twain in Washington, D.C.: The Adventures of a Capital Correspondent
When young Samuel Clemens first visited the nation's capital in 1854, both were rough around the edges and of dubious potential. Returning as Mark Twain in 1867, he brought his sharp eye and acerbic pen to the task of covering the capital for nearly a half-dozen newspapers. He fit in perfectly among the other hard-drinking and irreverent correspondents. His bohemian sojourn in Washington, D.C., has been largely overlooked, but his time in the capital city was catalytic to Twain's rise as America's foremost man of letters. While in Washington City, Twain received a publishing offer from the American Publishing Company that would jumpstart his fame. Through original research unearthing never-before-seen material, author John Muller explores how Mark Twain's adventures as a capital correspondent proved to be a critical turning point in his career.
