He knew she was in trouble and needed his help, but how could he reach out to her? After all, it was 2014 and he died in 1964. When the author was 21 years old, her first love died in a car crash while coming to see her when he originally planned to celebrate his own 21st birthday with friends out of town. She never suspected he would return to her 50 years later when she needed help healing. For five decades after his death, her survivor's guilt chose the main men in her life, three perceived to be in need of saving. Then everything changed in 2013 when she wrote a short story about her lost love and unhealed wounds surfaced. So did a visitor from the Other Side. By that time she had been a paranormal investigator for seven years and one with a reputation as a 'debunker' for their team. Then her cell phone rang two different times while it was turned off, convincing her that maybe, just maybe, their clients were not the only ones with unseen loved ones around them. Through late 2018, numerous incidents occurred-including both of their names being called out and recorded during two investigations-confirming her lost love was not so lost after all.

Prisons are dangerous places, and assaults, threats, theft and verbal abuse are pervasive - attributable both to the characteristics of the captive population and to an institutional sub culture which promotes violence as a means of resolving conflicts. Yet the crimes perpetrated by prisoners on other prisoners have attracted little interest, and criminological research has contributed little to an understanding of situations in which violence arises in penal institutions. This book seeks to remedy this, and to address and answer a number of key questions: how do features of the prison social setting shape conflicts?; what social norms guide the decision to use violence?; what are the personal and social consequences of spending months or years in places where distrust and anxiety are normal?; how do staff respond to the dangers that are part of daily life in many prisons?; is it possible to identify factors associated with risk and resilience?; and what methods of handling conflicts do prisoners use that could prevent violence? Prison Violence adopts a distinctive approach to answering these questions, and is based on extensive research, including interviews with both victims and perpetrators of prison violence; it pioneers a conflict-centred approach, seeking to understand the pathways into and out of situations where there is potential for violence, focusing on interpersonal and institutional dynamics rather than on individual psychological factors.

First in a hilarious new adventure series for middle grade readers featuring a particularly grouchy fairy statue, a nosy twerp of a neighbor and a mysterious creature with an all-consuming love for broccoli ice-cream.There was a wild and secret place at the bottom of Miss Heatherbell's garden. It had been forgotten for years until we found it. Nancy and Dom's photographer father is going to the Antarctic to hang out with seals. Nancy and Dom are not. They're going to stay with the eccentric Miss Heatherbell and her hordes of free-range guinea pigs, which doesn't seem quite as exciting as meeting an elephant seal named Brian. But Miss Heatherbell's house is large and mysterious, full of surprising rooms and odd objects. And it looks like something is hiding at the bottom of her enormous, overgrown garden ... Packed with daring escapades and oodles of laughs, The Mystery in the Garden also features a particularly grouchy fairy statue, a nosy twerp of a neighbor and a mysterious creature with an all-consuming love for broccoli ice-cream. With hints of classic adventure stories like Narnia and The Magic Faraway Tree, The Mystery in the Garden is also bursting with outlandish and distinctly modern humor - perfect for 7+ fans of laugh-out-loud adventures such as How to Train Your Dragon.
