Providing guidance to APRNs in identifying and resolving ethical dilemmas can increase effective patient outcomes, and we can continue to be the most honest and ethical profession now and into the future.Consideration for ethics in advanced nursing practice can be taxing, regardless of where one is in their career. As an APRN with many responsibilities when caring for patients, applying ethical consideration to each decision can be a daunting task. Not that every situation needs an in-depth ethical analysis; however, certain circumstances require more thought and attention. Applying a framework can help the APRN by providing a set of criteria for working through an ethical dilemma. It does not provide an answer to the dilemma, but it helps to guide the APRN to use critical thinking to come to an ethically sound decision.
He inherited millions, a bad leg from Tarawa, and a taste for cleaning up the town he calls home. Malachi Manatee is a six-foot-four Floridian, magnetic, brooding, and more comfortable with his fists than with polite society. Alongside his ex-Marine friend and narrator Tack Hinton-lungs scarred by war-and the fierce, red-haired Ilene Carver, Malachi prowls Bay City and nearby resort towns rooting out crooked cops, corrupt politicians, and murderous greed. William R. Cox's Malachi Manatee stories are pulp at its best: terse dialogue, bare-knuckle action, sudden reversals, and wry characterization. Set on Florida's Gulf coast and written in the lean, muscular style that influenced later Gulf-State sleuths, these nine tightly plotted tales follow Malachi from his first caper to his last stand. The Complete Cases of Malachi Manatee collects the entire series as they originally appeared-restored, uncut, and impossible to put down.
The case-control approach is a powerful method for investigating factors that may explain a particular event. It is extensively used in epidemiology to study disease incidence, one of the best-known examples being Bradford Hill and Doll's investigation of the possible connection between cigarette smoking and lung cancer. More recently, case-control studies have been increasingly used in other fields, including sociology and econometrics. With a particular focus on statistical analysis, this book is ideal for applied and theoretical statisticians wanting an up-to-date introduction to the field. It covers the fundamentals of case-control study design and analysis as well as more recent developments, including two-stage studies, case-only studies and methods for case-control sampling in time. The latter have important applications in large prospective cohorts which require case-control sampling designs to make efficient use of resources. More theoretical background is provided in an appendix for those new to the field.
