Colleen Moore (1899-1988) was one of the most popular and beloved stars of the American silent screen. Remembered primarily as a comedienne in such films as Ella Cinders (1926) and Orchids and Ermine (1927), Moore's career was also filled with dramatic roles that often reflected societal trends. A trailblazing performer, her legacy was somewhat overshadowed by the female stars that followed her, notably Louise Brooks and Clara Bow. An in-depth examination of Moore's early life and film career, the book reveals the ways in which her family and the times in which she lived influenced the roles she chose. Included are forewords written by film historian Joseph Yranski, a friend of the actress, and by Moore's stepdaughter, Judith Hargrave Coleman.

Colleen Kassner's recovery from mental illness is illustrated through her artwork, essays and poetry. Her journey starts in 1994 and it is a powerful narrative relating her amazing transformation. From single mother and social work student doing her internship at Grand Avenue Club (GAC) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to a woman in the throes of bi-polar disorder and alcohol abuse, she changes her life when she experiences an epiphany that starts her recovery. She becomes a person who, paints, runs a gallery, is happily married, and encourages others on their journey toward mental health and recovery. In 2001 she reconnected with her creativity by using art to aid in her recuperation from a traumatic psychiatric hospitalization. She hasn't stopped creating and growing as a human being since. Colleen combined her degree in social work with her love for art in 2006 when she re-established, her connection with Grand Avenue Club (GAC.) GAC uses a unique, non-clinical philosophy of psychiatric rehabilitation, which enables its members to return to full and productive lives. Colleen recently retired from her position as GAC's "Artist in Residence." She now paints full-time and advocates for mental health issues when the opportunity arises.

Rick Henry's little novel, Colleen's Count, Wednesday, August 16th, 1933, has a Joycean air and ear to it, a lightness in its depth, but only if Joyce had been a feminist living in the Adirondacks in the Depression era 30's. The title character is an Everywoman whose spirit, strength, and humanity ring true. Reading Colleen is like finding some precious object buried in rich mulch. -Stuart BartowRick Henry's short novel is a tour de force about women's lives in the Adirondacks in the 1920s and early 30s. Ostensibly about cars, it gradually reveals itself to be about those entwined eternal verities: sex, death and money. (And cars. And movies). Though slim, the book successfully brings to life an entire town, and era, as seen through the eyes of one woman, Colleen O'Shea Pierce, going about her day in 1933; in the process, she reveals herself to be far more Molly than Leopold Bloom. The book stays with you, troubling and disturbing, raising questions with no clear answers, much like life itself, -Barbara Ungar

Colleen Plumb: Animals Are Outside Today
The photographs of Colleen Plumb (born 1970) examine the scope of intersections and relationships between humankind and other creatures, seeking to draw out the contradictions that have shaped our relationships with animals throughout history. The animals she portrays range from beloved house pets to circus animals and even road kill. Weaving imagery of life and death, Plumb plays with the whole gamut of attachments and emotions we hold toward animals. Karen Irvine of the Museum of Contemporary Photography writes of this work: “[Plumb] uses color, framing and focus to draw our attention to details that are alternately humorous, delightful and disturbing, making the viewing of her pictures an ever-changing and engaging experience.” Animals Are Outside Today is the photographer's first monograph; it collects 74 color photographs that expose both our kinship and our disjuncture from other creatures of this earth.
