In the early hours of June 6, 1944, the first of over 150,000 Allied soldiers stormed five beaches in Normandy against fierce German resistance. They were specially trained and task-organized in a range of different landing teams depending on their means of transport, their tasks, and the resistance they anticipated. The first assault infantry were accompanied by tankers, combat engineers, and other specialist personnel, to breach German obstacles, knock out defensive positions, and to defend and prepare the beaches for the follow-on waves. On some beaches the plans worked, on others they were disrupted by bad weather, faulty timing, or enemy fire, with consequences that varied from survivable confusion to absolute carnage. This is an in-depth study of the uniforms, equipment, weapons, passage, landings, and tactics of US, British and Canadian assault units during the period from before H-Hour on June 6 to dawn on June 7.

Although most people associate the term D-Day with the Normandy invasion on June 6, 1944, it is military code for the beginning of any offensive operation. In the Pacific theater during World War II there were more than one hundred D-Days. The largest--and last--was the invasion of Okinawa on April 1, 1945, which brought together the biggest invasion fleet ever assembled, far larger than that engaged in the Normandy invasion. D-Days in the Pacific tells the epic story of the campaign waged by American forces to win back the Pacific islands from Japan. Based on eyewitness accounts by the combatants, it covers the entire Pacific struggle from the attack on Pearl Harbor to the dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Pacific war was largely a seaborne offensive fought over immense distances. Many of the amphibious assaults on Japanese-held islands were among the most savagely fought battles in American history: Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan, New Guinea, Peleliu, Leyte Gulf, Iwo Jima, Okinawa. Generously illustrated with photographs and maps, D-Days in the Pacific is the finest one-volume account of this titanic struggle.

At the instant of Jesus' death on the cross, we read of events that must have been terrifying to the people of Israel: An earthquake, an eclipse of the sun, the veil of the Temple torn in two, exposing the Holy of Holies But there was another occurrence--not so frightening, but just as mysterious: On the day of Jesus' resurrection, many people who died believing in Him were brought back to life and released from their tombs. Their mission: To go into Jerusalem and witness to His miraculous return. What would life have been like for those who were amazingly transported--with a new and steadfast purpose--from their gravesides to the outskirts of Jerusalem? This novel follows the footsteps of three people--Jonathan the potter, Adah the sorrowful wife, and Lamech the leper--who found themselves in that incredible situation. Come inside and meet them as they pass through the last moments of their earthly lives--or so they assume
From Indian Island to Omaha Beach: The D-Day Story of Charles Shay, Penobscot Indian War Hero
This volume, issued in a limited edition to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day (6 June 1944), features chapters excerpted from a forthcoming (2020) book-length biography of Penobscot Indian Elder Charles Norman Shay of Indian Island, Maine. His life story, told partly in his own words, brings to light the mostly ignored or forgotten service and sacrifice made by Native American soldiers and their communities in WWII, the Korean War and Cold War. Zeroing in on D-Day - the beginning of the Allied invasion of Normandy, France - these sample chapters focus on Private Shay's baptism by fire as a 19-year-old combat medic attached to an assault platoon in the U.S. Army's 1st Infantry Division, known as the "Big Red One." Struggling ashore at Omaha Beach as part of the first wave of attack in Operation Neptune, he treated and rescued countless comrades and was awarded a Silver Star for gallantry displayed that day. Woven into the narrative are stories representative of other front-line medics and the 500 fellow North American Indians who heroically participated in what is still the largest seaborne invasion in world history. AUTHORS: DR. HARALD E.L. PRINS (Distinguished Professor of Anthropology, Kansas State University) has published scores of articles, books and films. Son of a Dutch WWII resistance commander, in 2007 he began extensive research on North American Indian military history in Europe. Former Smithsonian Research Associate and Visiting Professor in Sweden, he has served as expert witness in indigenous rights cases in the U.S. Senate, U.S. Federal and Canadian courts. BUNNY McBRIDE, journalist/author/anthropologist, has written about cultural survival and conservation issues worldwide. Her books on Charles Shay's family and other Native Americans in Maine, include "Women of the Dawn;" "Molly Spotted Elk: A Penobscot in Paris;" "Our Lives in Our Hands," and "Princess Watahwaso: Bright Star of the Penobscot," plus two coauthored books with Harald Prins - "Indians in Eden" and "Asticou's Island Domain."
