Gillian and the Golden Rings is a modern fairy tale. Kept safe by fairies, two of the Season Rings have been lost. Or have they been stolen? On a late winter's morning, Gillian and her two dogs-Oliver and Remy-come across two gold rings submerged within an icy, muddy puddle. Gillian recovers the rings, but inadvertently leaves them outside on her patio. In the pre-dawn hours the next morning, she-along with two fairies-find the rings have gone missing again. Where have the rings gone? And who took them? These questions lead Gillian and her companions on an adventure they could never have imagined. From following the trail of the lost or stolen rings to their recovery, the characters she meets along the way, and the danger she finds herself in, make for a wonderful tale steeped in imagination and belief.

Johnny's coming home, whether it be on leave or permanently, may be a life changing experience for the family. Particularly if he had engaged in combat experiences through his service, he may return a stranger. In the civilian world, our First Responders are often transformed into strangers through their daily contact with trauma. This book has been written to assist both civilian and military families in understanding the effects that trauma has on their loved ones. In the military world, the effects have come to be called Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. In the civilian world, it can be called PTSD, Compassion Fatigue or Burnout. Whatever it is called, it affects not only the loved one, but ultimately other members of the family as well. I equate it to a computer virus that can be passed throughout the family placing the members in a permanent 'protect and defend' mode. Once established, the virus transforms the family in dysfunctional ways leading to cut off from social involvement with increasing isolation from others. When help and assistance is sought, the existing remedies seem to complicate rather than resolve the difficulties the family encounters. Over time, a loss of hope permeates those involved. A perspective emerges that Johnny's condition is permanent.I have written this book to alter this bleak perspective. I dare to tell you that Johnny can be returned to his pre-trauma self through a non-invasive treatment I have come to call RESET Therapy. My personal mission is one of 'ending the nightmare of PTSD.' Without hope, despair, depression and ultimately, self-destruction settles in for too many. I challenge this dour outcome. There is hope provided by new scientific breakthroughs. I trust that this book renews your belief that transformative change is possible.

I have learned much about the co-occurring difficulties that accompany PTSD. Consequently, my perspective of the systemic impact that trauma has on human beings has altered accordingly. I now view it as a systems fault built into our species. Physiologically, it seems that we are instinctively programmed to avoid stimuli which might do us harm. What we are not programmed to do is to 'turn off' the switching mechanism that immortalizes the memory of trauma within each of us. In each new chapter, a symptom complex that often accompanies PTSD is introduced. For example, I've come to the conclusion that unless all aspects of the comorbid condition of the sleep disorder are eliminated through a specific treatment, the PTSD neuronal network is still activated. By this measure alone, all current treatments would be considered failures. Two unique chapters are included with the first discussing the association between PTSD and dementia as well as pseudo-dementia. The second refers to an exciting newly emerging science that offers the potential for at least partial remediation of traumatic brain injury as well as dementing disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Disease. This intervention is referred to as Photobiomodulation. Dr. Michael Hamblin, who has written over 289 peer-reviewed articles, has graciously written the foreword to this book noting that: "In this sense, acoustical neuromodulation and photobiomodulation share a common mechanistic foundation resting on neuroplasticity. As I read about the applications of RESET Therapy to the PTSD comorbid conditions enumerated in this book, I was struck with an awareness of the inherent potential in each and every cell in our body to heal and restore itself." Indeed, 'heal and restore' is finally becoming possible through the advances forthcoming from Dr. Frank Lawlis, creator of the BAUD and Dr. Michael Hamblin, pioneer in the development of photobiomodulation.
Ending The Nightmare of PTSD: A Revolutionary Approach Based On New Brain Science

The latest discoveries in neuroscience have led to a brief protocol to restore pre-trauma brain ability by 'resetting the fear switch' in the emotional center of the brain. In all but Complex PTSD cases, rapid stabilization of emotional targeted stimuli the rule rather than the exception. Personal stories of Veterans & civilians using this revolutionary new technique are included in many of the book's chapters. When we look at PTSD through a brain based model as opposed to that of a diagnosis, it becomes apparent that a number of brain events occur following trauma. For example, aside from the brain's emotional center becoming highly activated, the area in the front region of the brain where we do complex thinking, shuts down. In addition, it is highly unlikely for an individual to be capable of insight when frozen in a chronic state of fight, flight or freeze. With 20 Veterans taking their lives on a daily basis, we must do better than what has been previously offered. This book discusses a field tested intervention that can change these terrible statistics. Now is the time to make this happen.RESET Therapy builds on the pioneering work of Dr. Frank Lawlis; creator of the BAUD. His protocols for PTSD formed the basic foundation for the later emergence of RESET Therapy. From this perspective, we are forever grateful for his contributions to newly emerging psycho-therapeutic interventions based on solid neuro-scientific research.

"It's important for fire fighters and the behavioral health community to work together in a systematic approach to not only fight stigma, but develop alternatives to the traditional behavioral health services and interventions available. One such pioneer leading the fight to develop quality and culturally competent treatment for our fire fighters is Dr. George Lindenfeld, noted psychologist and accomplished author. In his fifth work, First Responders: Compassion Fatigue, Burnout, & PTSD, Dr. Lindenfeld dives deeply into the unique experiences of PTSD among the brave men and women who put their lives on the line every day to serve our communities."Building on his expertise in treating active military and veteran populations who suffer from PTSD, Dr. Lindenfeld has developed a promising new intervention that uses sensory activation to reconsolidate traumatic memories without relying on the traditional talk therapy interventions that in some cases have been ineffective or even a deterrent for those seeking help. I am grateful for Dr. Lindenfeld's contribution to bring the critical issues of PTSD in the fire service to the forefront of our national and international awareness. We have an uphill battle to climb in addressing this crisis among our ranks, but when we work together to challenge versus accept what is, we are one step closer."Sincerely, Harold A. SchaitbergerGeneral PresidentInternational Association of Firefighters
This briefs reviews the literature on alexithymia with a particular focus on the relation between positive well-being and alexithymia. It starts by exploring the definition, history and etiology of the construct. The briefs then discusses the importance of research and presents new research which sheds light on why alexithymia is characterized by poor well-being. The research strongly suggests that people who score high in alexithymia are low in aspects of positive well-being such as happiness, life satisfaction, and positive affect, and high in aspects of negative well-being, such as depression and negative affect. Next, the book examines the correlates of alexithymia and the latter’s relation with personality and subjective well-being. Although there has been an increased interest in human flourishing, and even though research in positive psychology has included personality, there has been little application of positive psychology to people with deficits in emotional processing including people with alexithymia. This briefs fills that gap. ?
