I've attended parties where people try to break the ice by asking, What's the grossest meat you've ever eaten? This book is not about that topic. For one thing, I'm a meat minimalist or a virtual vegetarian. I think that most people in the US, Europe, and other developed countries eat too much meat. It's not good for us. It's not good for the environment. And it's certainly not good for the animals who get eaten. Did they have a choice in the matter? But I'm not here to shove my point of view down your throat; or anything else for that matter. This book is also not about fancy parties where the host serves spaghetti without utensils. I don't know about you, but I've got better things to waste my money on than replacing my clothes. I know, I know, Spoilsport We're not inviting you to our party if you're going to be like that You might think that some of the foods which are mentioned in this book are gross. You may be correct in that assessment. However, you will never know unless you try them. I'll be polite. You can go first. And you never know, you may find some of these foods to be quite delightful, as do I. I'm not Mikey. I don't hate everything. On the other hand, there are quite a few things that I refuse to even try, believe it or not.Hopefully I've included enough humor in this book that you won't be totally grossed out. And you won't be saying, Gag me with a whole place setting, as one of my sister's liked to say at a younger age. When I told my other sister the title of this book - Tomato Shake and Other Foods You're Hesitant to Try - she replied, More like: and Other Foods You'd Avoid My wife probably said something like, It's no wonder your stomach's always upset. To which I probably replied, My stomach's not always upset. To which my stomach replied, Rumble, rumble.Enough introduction already. Just grab the barf bag and start reading You are curious to find out what these um ... delicacies ... are? Aren't you?

The Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) or Seatac is one of my favorite airports. I'll reveal the secrets about what makes it so great in this book. These are secrets I've gleaned from my many trips through the airport and from doing some additional research. Seattle is a prime west coast destination. Seatac has direct flights to Alaska, Hawaii, and several continental US states. Seatac is a great place to relax, eat, shop, and get onto or off of your plane. You just might see me in at Seatac. Look for the sideburns. And I'll be wearing a smile because Seatac is a Happy Airport.

Violet started the conversation. She always had to start the conversation, but she didn't really mind. She liked giving Brunettes a chance to start the conversation, knowing that would never happen. Waiting just long enough, Violet asked, "What shall we do today?" She tried to make it sound royal. They waited and waited, then together Brunettes said, "I don't know." "Well, in that case ...", Violet was starting to say; when Brunettes said together, "Today, we get a name " This was very surprising to Violet. It was not surprising that Brunettes said something together. They said and did everything in unison. It was this request for a name that was so surprising. They had a name So, Violet stated what she assumed was obvious to all of them. "You have a name, Brunettes." "NO She wants a name " they screamed, pointing at each other."Brunettes, you have a name " said Violet, sounding as exasperated as a six-year old could sound. It was at times like this, that she wished Mother was here. She corrected herself. There had never been a time like this before. Brunettes always did everything the same. She thought they liked their name. There had never been a problem before."We want two names " they pouted, a most professional, four-year old pout."Brunettes and Brunettes " Violet said, proud of thinking of that all on her own.Brunettes shook their heads violently back and forth. "No That won't do That won't do at all "Violet considered for a moment. She was Violet. Other people in the Dynasty had violet hair - all of them except Brunettes, to be precise. But nobody else was named Violet, only she. So, she supposed Brunettes should each have a name. But how would anyone tell them apart. Who would know which girl had which name. But, Violet was only stumped on that for a moment until she realized that it didn't really matter. If Brunettes had two names, she would only have to say one and they would both respond. After all, they both responded to Brunettes.

The Language of the Wind

The Language of the Wind

Introduction: Wind can seem brutal, Wind can seem gentle. In actuality, Wind is neither - Wind just is. Some words for Wind are Blast, Breeze, Chinook, Cyclone, Gale, Gust, Typhoon, Tornado, Hurricane, Zephyr. Brisa is Spanish for Breeze. Similar sounding words for breeze exist in most European languages. Zephyr is Greek for Breeze. In Hawaii, gentle Winds are called trade Winds, Moa'a or Makani 'olu'olu. Makani is the main Hawaiian word for Wind, but there are perhaps 200 names for Wind in Hawaiian. There are over 6000 languages in the world, so there are probably over 60,000 words for Wind. But what is the language of the Wind? If you listen, you can hear it. But the easiest way to learn the language of the Wind is to become its child. In these pages, we will explore some of the language of the Wind. I invite you to listen to what the Wind is saying to you. What words is it teaching you? What pictures is it showing you? What smells is it bringing to your nostrils? What tastes to your tongue? When you touch the Wind, how does it feel? When you sit on its lap or are embraced in its arms, what is that like? The Wind is the Ultimate Truth, the Relationship of Relationships, the Healer, the One who Blesses us, the One who lets us know we really are OK, the Most Loving Heart. The Wind is your best friend and advocate. The Wind is always there, to hold you and console you. The Wind enjoys guiding you on your journey. The Wind wants the best for you. Here is what some with wisdom say about the Wind. May the nourishment of the earth be yours May the clarity of light be yours May the fluency of the ocean be yours May the protection of the ancestors be yours And so may a slow Wind work these words of love around you, an invisible cloak to mind your life." John O'Donahue" The Wind gave our children the spirit of light" Chief Seattle "For what is it to die, but to stand in the sun and melt into the Wind" Kahlil Gibran "Since I grew tired of the chase and search, I learned to find; And since the Wind blows in my face, I sail with every Wind." Nietzsche "A great Wind is blowing, and that gives you either imagination or a headache." Catherine the Great" The laughing Wind tickles my funny bone. Tee Hee " Shana"To be human is to be where the Wind and water meet" Dale" Only bears can hug the Wind" Yellow Bear by which he means Only those who are their true selves can hug the Wind. Yellow Bear is my self=friend. He often gets distracted by blueberries, those slurpable little berries of flavor that exude the wonder of everything that is delicious. "Blueberry Juice for the Soul" is Yellow Bear's phrase for Spiritual Food because it's really, really tasty like blueberries. This book contains nuggets of Wisdom - Blueberry Juice for the Soul - which help us understand the Language of the Wind. Some excerpts in this book are from my mystical rewritings of the Bible which I call the Chanting Wind Version. These are all my original writings.Rated G. Reading Level - Very Easy 4th Grade. Yellow Bear was walking in the woods one day. He was deep in the woods where the trees are close to each other, so close there was hardly room to move between them. But Yellow Bear managed. Sometimes he would have to climb over branches, and sometimes he crawled under them. Walking in the deep woods was hard, but Yellow Bear was really enjoying it. Casual strolls, where the trees were not as close to each other, were nice; but walking this obstacle course was also fun. Yellow Bear was drawn in this direction, so he kept walking (and climbing, and crawling).Suddenly, Yellow Bear popped out into an open meadow. This was the place he had been drawn to. A nice meadow full of wildflowers and singing birds. Yellow Bear was about to sit down and relax and enjoy this meadow, taking in all its majestic beauty; when the Wind came to play with him, flipping his ear forward. Come, play with me it said.Yellow Bear knew the Wind. He knew how nice it was. The Wind brought smells to his nose of honey, berries, and other foods. The Wind told him where other animals were. The Wind could keep him warm, or cool him off. The Wind brought him music as it sang through the leaves of the trees. Yes, the Wind was nice. But, this was the first time the Wind had invited him to play.Yellow Bear loved to play, oh how he loved to play The Wind had tagged him, so now Yellow Bear ran to tag the Wind. The Wind was elusive, and the first few times, Yellow Bear missed. Yellow Bear would chase the Wind, and just as he was about to tag it, the Wind would disappear. Then the Wind would appear someplace else and Yellow Bear would chase it again. And, again the Wind would disappear just as Yellow Bear was about to tag it. Then Yellow Bear stepped onto the WindWhere he stepped, there was nothingWhere he stepped, there was everythingThen he knew why the birds singAnd the children laughHe knew why water flowedAnd fire burnedAnd he knew why the Wind called to himand why he longed to answerRating G; Reading Level Very Easy 4th Grade; Longest Words: Ginoodaawangaa, Disappointment

I'm a dabbler in many languages. In this story I dabble in Japanese. This chapter would be called Kishoutenketsu in Japanese. Satoru's Boukenshousetsu is a story about a young man who is writing an Adventure Story. I stumbled across this term and found it fascinating to start looking into another culture's story forms. As I said, I'm a dabbler, so there may well be better ways to say these terms in Japanese. However, this story happens in some future where space travel is common place and so are parallel dimensions. So this may be the way these things are said in the Japanese of that time and planet. While Satoru is writing his boukenshousetsu, another story is weaving its way through his life, doing bizarre things to his body. Satoru tries to keep his kibyou (strange disease) hidden from his girlfriend Julie. Meanwhile Satoru's best friend David is trying to find a way for Satoru to finally be free of his curse.Rating G; Reading Level Easy 4th Grade; Longest Words: Announcements, Preprogrammed, Possibilities, Sophisticated, Investigations

From across the room, he noticed her elbow. Such an exquisite elbow. What fine lines. As he traced the curve of her elbow with his eyes, he noticed something stenciled there. At this distance he should not have been able to tell that that something was a flower. But he could, so he gave up reasoning for reality. His eye started tracing the lines of the flower. He was only vaguely aware that the flower was drawn on a woman's elbow some 20 yards away. Suddenly, his laptop got heavier, almost dragging him down. He thought that must have been due to all the data he had recently downloaded. Strange thought. The lines of the flower slowly, but surely, turned into a descending, spiraling staircase. "What an interesting twist", he thought. And then his mind swirled out of control. His last thought was that he was falling....Pink polka-dots were never so welcome Hmmm, this stairwell traveling could come in handy, I wonder what other stairwells ...
