But a simpler teaching method also exits. Teachers could e-mail (see the next paragraph for directions) the course to students, encourage them to get started, and answer questions as they arise-answer them either personally/individually or through group-discussion. Teachers who wish to provide students with an e-copy of my English Literature course may receive it from me, in a docx file, through e-mail. Once received, teachers could e-mail the course to their students. I welcome students to open the file through their personal e-mail accounts and to save it; then they're free to complete assignments at their computers, tablets, or laptops, by typing their responses in the docx file. After that, they simply show their work to their teachers, or print the work out page by page, for their teachers to read. The author Dan Lukiv is a poet, novelist, columnist, short story and article writer, and independent education researcher (hermeneutic phenomenology). His creative writing has appeared in 19 countries. Recently, he has been experimenting with temporal shifts and narrative strings in his haiku and senryu.

Theoretically informed scholarship on early modern English utopian literature has largely focused on Marxist interpretation of these texts in an attempt to characterize them as proto- Marxist. The present volume instead focuses on subjectivity in early modern English utopian writing by using these texts as case studies to explore intersections of the thought of Jacques Lacan and Michel Foucault. Both Lacan and Foucault moved back and forth between structuralist and post-structuralist intellectual trends and ultimately both defy strict categorization into either camp. Although numerous studies have appeared that compare Lacan’s and Foucault’s thought, there have been relatively few applications of their thought together onto literature. By applying the thought of both theorists, who were not literary critics, to readings of early modern English utopian literature, this study will, on the one hand, describe the formation of utopian subjectivity that is both psychoanalytically (Oedipal and pre-Oedipal) and socially constructed, and, on the other hand, demonstrate new ways in which the thought of Lacan and Foucault inform and complement each other when applied to literary texts. The utopian subject is a malleable subject, a subject whose linguistic, psychoanalytical subjectivity determines the extent to which environmental and social factors manifest in an identity that moves among Lacan’s Symbolic, Imaginary, and Real.

Dan thinks he wants to be a rancher; his father wants him to enroll in a university. He has been granted a year's stay at his godparents' Wyoming ranch to learn what ranching involves. He came to stay with them in early summer. Now he must go thru a winter in the high country, a test even for those from New York state. Receiving a horse of his own -a young pinto that he names Toby- he finds additional complications: Toby may be blind, he needs training, and his ownership is in question. There are times when work must be done, Dan learns, at a ranch or anywhere, even if a person is tired. He appreciates the beauty of nature and also learns more of its difficulties. During a time of being snowed-in when he is alone, Dan must draw on his own resourcefulness. A thread running thru this story is Dan's belief in a God to sustain him.
