This superb book unites the abolitionist famous speeches of David Walker and Henry Highland Garnet - two famous African American campaigners opposing slavery in the 19th century. Filled with vociferous opposition, both campaigners condemn racism and hatred underpinning the perpetuation of slavery. Insight into feelings of the time are dispensed: it was dangerous to be abolitionist as it meant standing against powerful economic interests controlling the Southern states. Retaliation, violent or otherwise, was a constant possibility. Unlike abolitionists more ingratiated with the Establishment of the era, Walker and Garnet did not fear criticizing otherwise lauded figures such as President Thomas Jefferson. As well as owning slaves, Jefferson published his opinion that black people were inherently inferior, and that their place in shackles was justified. That this view be espoused by a recent leader of the United States indicated, for Walker and Garnet, an urgent need for vigorous, sustained opposition.

This book provides an introduction to the history of medieval Wales, with particular emphasis on political developments. It traces the growth of Welsh princely power, and the invasion and settlement of Welsh territories by Norman adventurers which resulted in the creation of the marcher lordships and the steady erosion of Welsh princely authority in the south. The subsequent development of a powerful Welsh state under the leadership of the princes of Gwynedd was checked by Edward I in 1277, and thereafter the principality was deliberately overrun and destroyed: the Edwardian castles are symbols of conquest. Despite valiant attempts by local leaders in the thirteenth century, and by a national leader Owain Glyn Dwr early in the fifteenth, the English domination of Wales persisted, even beyond the advent of the Tudor dynasty. This is the first comprehensive short textbook on medieval Wales to be written for school and university students. It will also attract anyone with a general interest in Celtic studies or in the centuries which played such a formative role in the development of the Welsh national character.

This paper researches DoD policy regarding employing military forces and capabilities in support of civil authorities. Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA) is well codified as a DoD mission. However, only DoD policy allows DoD forces to be employed in support of civil authorities when requested, approved by the President or SecDef, and if available. DoD policy restricts the services from attaining any forces or capabilities solely for the purpose of DSCA. Forces for DSCA missions must come from any combat forces available at the time of request. This paper highlights the fricition DoD policy creates in DSCA mission execution and offers potential recommendations for improvements.
