Exploring Mathematics gives students experience with doing mathematics - interrogating mathematical claims, exploring definitions, forming conjectures, attempting proofs, and presenting results - and engages them with examples, exercises, and projects that pique their interest. Written with a minimal number of pre-requisites, this text can be used by college students in their first and second years of study, and by independent readers who want an accessible introduction to theoretical mathematics. Core topics include proof techniques, sets, functions, relations, and cardinality, with selected additional topics that provide many possibilities for further exploration. With a problem-based approach to investigating the material, students develop interesting examples and theorems through numerous exercises and projects. In-text exercises, with complete solutions or robust hints included in an appendix, help students explore and master the topics being presented. The end-of-chapter exercises and projects provide students with opportunities to confirm their understanding of core material, learn new concepts, and develop mathematical creativity.

It is estimated that 90% of those who are HIV positive are in employment. However, the significant body of literature into HIV/AIDS to date has primarily focused on the medical aspects of the disease and its implications for health/social policy. There has been little analysis of the employment implications of HIV/AIDS, and what does exist is essentially descriptive and usually limited to legal features of the employment relationship. This text provides a review of the theoretical and practical issues which bear upon organisational responses to HIV/AIDS. The authors set these responses in a historical and international context, before analysing recent research findings. In the first three chapters, issues are explored through an analysis which highlights international convergences and divergences. The remaining chapters draw on the authors' research to explore the "internal" dynamics of HIV/AIDS in the workplace.

All Roy wanted to Christmas was a nice warm blanket to wrap around him and keep the cold out. Unfortunately, Farmer William Charles, his lifelong friend, who had promised to bring Roy one of his very own blankets, had fallen asleep in front of the wonderful hot log fire. Try as he might, Roy kicked and kicked at the farmhouse door, but he just couldn't wake him. With his head hanging low, Roy was just about to go back into the cold barn when a spark of an idea came to his mind.If he followed the winding road for about a mile and a half, he would come to a steep hill. Now, just over that hill on the other side, down in the valley is a place called Wood Meadow Farm and Farmer Pete's state-of-the-art stables with all mod cons. He would be only too happy to put Roy up for a night or two.It was a simple idea, so, despite the way the snow was coming down, what could possibly go wrong?

Inorganic Substances is complementary in its approach to conventional inorganic chemistry textbooks. Written with the undergraduate in mind, it gives an introduction to descriptive inorganic chemistry, a systematic survey of the chemistry of the elements according to the Periodic Classification. In this way, the reader acquires a firm grasp of the principles which underlie which inorganic substances can be made, their preparations, structures, chemical reactions and physical properties. The book presents theory as a background to the facts of inorganic chemistry, rather than as an end in itself. It does not concentrate on structural detail or reaction mechanisms but stresses the interplay between thermodynamic and kinetic considerations in understanding stability. The ways in which the various theories of structure and bonding are related are thoroughly dealt with throughout. The approach of this book makes it a useful companion to any intermediate inorganic chemistry course. It should also be useful to other science students, especially earth and material scientists who need a good grounding in modern inorganic chemistry.
Faced with America's military superiority, many countries are turning to weapons of mass destruction (WMD) as a means to deter United States intervention. However, the events of September 11 awakened America to a degree of vulnerability it had never experienced before, making it increasingly unwilling to tolerate such weapons in the hands of unstable and unpredictable regimes. Through theoretical, historical, and prescriptive lenses, this book explores the modern security dilemma created by the twin fears of American encroachment and vulnerability which form a vicious cycle of insecurity that challenges traditional notions of deterrence. Using Iraq and North Korea as case studies, Smith argues that the United States may need to re-evaluate its foreign policy strategies against WMD proliferation, giving renewed attention to defensive measures, negotiated disarmament, interdiction, and perhaps preemption.

There are one billion smokers on the planet today and up to half will die from their habit. According to the World Health Organization, approximately one person dies every six seconds from tobacco use. Despite the negative effects of smoking, the healthcare profession is not entirely smoke-free; an issue which must be addressed as this group is on the frontlines of tobacco control. This book presents the findings of more than 360 surveys of smoking among doctors, dentists and nurses, as well as students in these fields. Much can be learned from the data; the most important being a comprehensive understanding of how many healthcare professionals smoke, in what country, and at what stage in their career. The gathering of such data is the focus of this book.
This is the companion Action Guide for Cybersense-The Leader's Guide to Protecting Critical Information which is a comprehensive guide written by Derek Smith, the Worlds #1 Cybersecurity Expert, that contains critical and practical information for helping leaders devise strategies to protect their company from data compromise. This guide answers the following questions and many others for which all leaders need answers: -Exactly what is cybersecurity?-Why is cybersecurity important to my organization? -Is my business a good candidate for cybersecurity measures?-How can I protect my organization from data compromise? -How can I continually monitor the security of my organization's data with constant cyber threats occurring? -How can I implement cybersecurity quickly and efficiently?Leaders do not leave any other critical systems in their organization vulnerable to attack. Why would they leave information assets and technologies vulnerable when there is a simple solution to the vulnerability? Fear of the unknown may contribute to the hesitation to move forward with cybersecurity. It is important to note that cybersecurity has now become the responsibility of leaders. It is no longer reserved for the behind-the-scenes techies and geeks. Leaders need a firm understanding of how they can best protect their organization whether they are the Chief Information Security Officer for the organization or are required to work closely with the CISO. Effective leaders must be proactive to learn what they need to know. This ACTION PLAN, written by a trusted industry leader, is a companion workbook for the book Cybersense: The Leader's Guide to Protecting Critical Information. The ACTION PLAN serves as a resource for evaluating your company's cybersecurity situation and helping you make quality decisions. The workbook also emphasizes key information from the book to serve as a quick reference guide.
