Bt-Baumwolle wurde durch die bertragung des Kristallproteingens (Cry 1 AC) von einem Bodenbakterium Bacillus thuringiensis var. Kurstaki auf Baumwolle entwickelt. Das Gen wurde durch eine Transformation, die durch ein Agrobakterium vermittelt wurde, auf Baumwolle bertragen. Das in transgener Baumwolle produzierte Cry-Protein ist f r alle Baumwollkapselbohrer giftig. Der kommerzielle Anbau von Bt-Baumwolle begann weltweit erstmals 1996 in Indien. Nach umfangreichen Tests von Bt-Baumwollhybriden (mit dem Gen Cry1 Ac) im Rahmen des All India Coordinated Cotton Improvement Project (AICCIP) und auf Feldern von Landwirten genehmigte die indische Regierung den kommerziellen Anbau von Bt-Baumwollhybriden ab der Erntesaison 2002. Allerdings besteht nach wie vor eine gro e L cke zwischen dem Produktionspotenzial und der tats chlichen Produktion der Baumwollbauern. Dies kann auf die teilweise bernahme oder das Wissen der Baumwollbauern ber den empfohlenen wissenschaftlichen Anbau zur ckzuf hren sein. Es wurden jedoch keine systematischen Anstrengungen unternommen, um die L cke zu untersuchen, die in verschiedenen Komponenten des Baumwollanbaus besteht. Daher wurde die vorliegende Studie geplant, um das Wissen und die bernahme der empfohlenen Bt-Baumwollproduktionstechnologie unter den Landwirten zu ermitteln.

En Inde, apr s des tests approfondis des hybrides de coton Bt (avec le g ne Cry1 Ac) dans le cadre du All India Coordinated Cotton Improvement Project (AICCIP) et sur le terrain des agriculteurs, le gouvernement indien a approuv la culture commerciale d'hybrides de coton Bt partir de la saison 2002. Il gene stato trasferito al cotone attraverso la trasformazione mediata da un batterio agrario. La proteina cry prodotta nel cotone transgenico tossica per tutti i tarli. La coltivazione commerciale del cotone Bt nel mondo iniziata per la prima volta nel 1996. In India, dopo aver condotto test approfonditi sugli ibridi di cotone Bt (con il gene Cry1 Ac) nell'All India Coordinated Cotton Improvement Project (AICCIP) e nei campi degli agricoltori, il governo indiano ha approvato la coltivazione commerciale di ibridi di cotone Bt a partire dalla stagione 2002. Tuttavia, esiste ancora un ampio divario tra il potenziale produttivo e la produzione effettiva realizzata dai coltivatori di cotone. Ci pu essere dovuto all'adozione parziale o alla conoscenza della coltivazione scientifica raccomandata da parte dei coltivatori di cotone.
