Discuss key concepts such as soil compaction, consolidation, shear strength, and pore water pressure.Site Investigation and Soil Testing: Explore methods for site investigation and soil testing, including field and laboratory techniques for assessing soil properties. Discuss sampling methods, in-situ tests (e.g., standard penetration test, cone penetration test), and laboratory tests (e.g., Atterberg limits, triaxial shear tests).Foundation Design and Analysis: Examine the principles of foundation design and analysis, including the design of shallow foundations (e.g., spread footings, mat foundations) and deep foundations (e.g., piles, caissons). Discuss load-bearing capacity, settlement analysis, and foundation stability.Geotechnical Engineering in Practice: Explore practical aspects of geotechnical engineering, including case studies of real-world applications, construction challenges, quality control, and risk management. Discuss the integration of geotechnical considerations into project planning, design, and construction processes.

Healing Healthcare is a poignant exploration of the intricate challenges within the healthcare landscape post-pandemic and solutions for change. Faced with shortages and systemic upheavals, the healthcare system currently teeters on the brink of collapse, prompting responses from a respected group of healthcare professionals who each spotlight evidence-based strategies for recovery. With a diverse set of contributors from academia, practice, and the community, Healing Healthcare is a collaborative effort that serves as a beacon of hope, paving the way for a truly healed and resilient healthcare ecosystem. At its core, Healing Healthcare amplifies the voices of nurse leaders. This book is filled with the solutions, action steps, and strategies to fix our broken healthcare system, divided into three distinct sections: Workforce, Well-Being, and Wisdom.Contributors to the Workforce section tackle issues of inequities, incivility, and generational needs, emphasizing the crucial requirement for emotional safety.Nurses need work settings that promote well-being and meet their needs for a wellness culture, as is explored and made clear in the Well-Being section.Wisdom moves us beyond common discussions on maximizing patient value as contributors explore education, cultural misalignments, lack of recognition, and uncertainty, providing a nuanced understanding of the challenges faced by healthcare professionals and our next chapter in the healthcare reform space.Healing Healthcare is for the leader who wants to make an immediate impact. This book is a must-read for healthcare professionals, packed with vetted ideas for change; we urge you to embrace, and be, that change.

Looks at how Department of Defense (DoD) education, training, and development institutions are affected by the consolidation of DoD facilities and changes in governance structure. The Department of Defense (DoD) often improves its efficiency by consolidating facilities (mainly through base realignment and closure, or BRAC) and changing its governance structure. These shifts significantly affect the education, training, and development (ET&D) institutions that support DoD personnel, with such impact as relocation. With an eye toward the 2005 BRAC, RAND researchers look at four case studies of the 1990s and from them make recommendations for ET&D institutions that may be affected by future shifts in defense infrastructure. The Variable-Order Fractional Calculus of Variations

The Variable-Order Fractional Calculus of Variations

?The Variable-Order Fractional Calculus of Variations is devoted to the study of fractional operators with variable order and, in particular, variational problems involving variable-order operators. This brief presents a new numerical tool for the solution of differential equations involving Caputo derivatives of fractional variable order. Three Caputo-type fractional operators are considered, and for each one, an approximation formula is obtained in terms of standard (integer-order) derivatives only. Estimations for the error of the approximations are also provided. The contributors consider variational problems that may be subject to one or more constraints, where the functional depends on a combined Caputo derivative of variable fractional order. In particular, they establish necessary optimality conditions of Euler–Lagrange type. As the terminal point in the cost integral is free, as is the terminal state, transversality conditions are also obtained. The Variable-Order Fractional Calculus of Variations is a valuable source of information for researchers in mathematics, physics, engineering, control and optimization; it provides both analytical and numerical methods to deal with variational problems. It is also of interest to academics and postgraduates in these fields, as it solves multiple variational problems subject to one or more constraints in a single brief.

In this study we used a Boundary Integral Method to solve the following three problems of uncoupled, linear Magnetoelasticity and Magneto-thermoelasticity: 1)- an infinite, elliptical cylinder carrying a steady, axial, uniform electric current, in the presence of an external temperature. 2)- an infinite, elliptical cylinder subjected to an external, transverse uniform magnetic field. 3)- two infinite, parallel, circular cylindrical conductors carrying steady, uniform, axial currents. The aim of the work is twofold: to assess the used boundary integral method for efficiency, and to investigate some problems of practical interest, in which different fields interact.

Undertaken for the Department of Defense1s Office of the Chancellor for Education and Professional Development, this report outlines an approach for describing and evaluating external governance in a multi-organizational system of education, training, and professional development, which should be of interest to those charged with oversight of such systems. The approach consists of two main tasks: a structural analysis, which maps governance arrangements, and an implementation audit, which assesses effectiveness. (MF)

Undertaken for the Department of Defense1s Office of the Chancellor for Education and Professional Development, this report addresses the need of organizations to exert influence in situations where they lack the hierarchical authority that would make such influence straightforward. It does so by presenting a three-stage framework that will help such organizations recognize and capitalize on the power-and-influence options available to them.

The National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2020 directed the Secretary of Defense to report on food insecurity among members of the armed forces and their dependents. RAND researchers examined the eight elements from the directive (including an assessment of the current extent of food insecurity among service members and their dependents) and developed answers, along with listing areas requiring additional analysis.
