Eberhard Weber is a virtuoso who revolutionized jazz bass playing. He brought his instrument from the far corner of the stage into the spotlight - and turned it into a solo force. He began his career as a jazz bassist in the 1960s, and his band Colours with the saxophonist Charlie Mariano became one of the most successful jazz groups in Europe. His record Colours of Chloe (made for ECM) was a cult album in its time. Weber went on to perform with many the big stars of the international jazz scene, including Wolfgang Dauner, Gary Burton, Pat Metheny and Jan Garbarek. He was also a key member of the United Jazz and Rock Ensemble. Playing the five-string instrument, both in acoustic and electric form, he also became a master of the solo recital, using electronics to accompany his own dexterous improvisations. Weber has not been able to play the bass since he suffered a stroke in April 2007 during a sound check with the Jan Garbarek Group at the Berlin Philharmonic Hall. But he had already created an oeuvre that is second to none. The charismatic bassist made jazz history with his explorations, both in terms of his own instrument and with his range of creative musical companions. His remarkable autobiography is at the same time a humorous and exciting testimony to a vital period in German jazz history. This is the first English translation of the original published in German by Sagas in 2015.

Recent English-language scholarship has largely passed over Eberhard Jüngel's characteristic interest in the question of truth. In this work, David Bruner makes a major contribution to the reception of Jüngel's thought by offering the first monograph to critically engage his account of truth and its vital connection to other doctrinal loci. Tracing Jüngel's understanding of truth across several theological topoi, the author argues that Jüngel's understanding of truth can best be characterized as 'historical' or 'eschatological historicism.' It shows how an understanding of truth as essentially historical or temporal is not incidental but essential to his thought. It also ties him to larger debates regarding the appropriation of philosophical historical consciousness within modern theology and alethiology.

Eberhard Schmidt (1891-1977) war als Jurist im Kaiserreich, in der Weimarer Republik, im NS-Staat und in der Bundesrepublik tätig, sein wissenschaftliches Werk umfasst neben dem materiellen Strafrecht die Strafrechtsgeschichte und das Strafprozessrecht. Schmidt gilt als Stammvater des Arztstrafrechts und war Schüler Franz von Liszts, dessen Lehrbuch er fortführte und dessen Ideen er in die Beratungen der Großen Strafrechtskommission der 1950er Jahre einbrachte. Als Rechtshistoriker prägte Schmidt die strafrechtsgeschichtlichen Vorstellungen mehrerer Juristengenerationen. Im Strafprozessrecht, dem er sich nach 1945 zuwandte, gilt sein "Lehrkommentar" als epochale wissenschaftliche Leistung. Die Beiträge des Bandes nehmen eine wissenschaftshistorische Verortung des Schmidt´schen Werkes vor und gehen der Frage nach, welche seiner Arbeiten auch aus heutiger Sicht von bleibendem Wert sind.

Eberhard Jüngel (1934-2021) hat wie kaum ein anderer systematischer Theologe in Wissenschaft und Kirche gewirkt, und zwar vor allem durch seine Theologie. Der vorliegende Band geht auf den akademischen Gedenkvortrag zurück, den das Evangelische Stift zu Ehren des verstorbenen Altephorus ausgerichtet hat. Zu dem Vortrag von Christiane Tietz, die das Kernanliegen der Theologie Eberhard Jüngels herausstellt, treten weitere Beiträge, die auf eine Tagung im Umfeld des Gedenkaktes zurückgehen. Theologische Aspekte seines Werkes, vom Frühwerk, das von Ernst Fuchs geprägt ist, bis zu dem Hauptwerk "Gott als Geheimnis der Welt" kommen ebenso in den Blick wie bisher wenig beleuchtete Aspekte seiner Theologie, etwa die Ästhetik oder die grundlegende Verantwortung für das Politische. Die Wirkung seiner Theologie in Theologie und Kirche kommt ebenso zur Sprache wie seine Tätigkeit als Ephorus des Evangelischen Stifts. Eine Bibliographie für die Jahre 2004-2021 schließt den Band ab.
