In his autobiography, Eric tells the story of his life -- sharing insights from along his journey -- so that future generations may know him better and perhaps learn some lessons to share with generations to come. Eric writes about his life from his perspective at each age and era, taking memories from the extensive journals he kept along the way. A decades-in-the-making effort, this book brings readers along on Eric's journey, growing up to German and Polish immigrant parents in Chicago, IL and Albuquerque, NM, hoping to find a way out of a typical life. Joining the Navy provided a ticket out of Albuquerque and gave Eric his first taste of the world afar. He went on to live on three continents in 20 different cities, and visit more than 50 countries. Along his life's journey, Eric married an amazing traveling partner, Rosanna Lee Parks, and went on to produce two travelers in their own right, Christopher and Erica, both of whom continue the lessons of living a life of adventure with their children.

Das Verbot der Doppelbestrafung war schon im 5. Jh. vC im attischen Recht bekannt, ebenso im r mischen Recht und im Sachsenspiegel. Dieses fand 1791 als Grundfreiheit Eingang in die franz sische Verfassung, ebenso in das 5. Amendment der Verfassung der USA (als Verbot des "double jeopardy"). Dieses Recht findet sich nicht in der EMRK selbst, sondern ist erst durch das 7. Zusatzprotokoll, welches durch sterreich ratifiziert wurde, aufgenommen worden. Durch erhebliche Auslegungsschwierigkeiten wird dieser Artikel in der Lehre oft auch als das "verflixte Siebente" bezeichnet. Dieses Recht dient dem Schutz des Normunterworfenen vor einem neuerlichen Strafverfahren, nachdem bereits ein Strafprozess durch einen Frei- oder Schuldspruch abgeschlossen wurde. Die Ziele des Doppelbestrafungsverbotes sind Rechtssicherheit und Berechenbarkeit der Strafjustiz. Diese "Sperrwirkung" betrifft lediglich Strafen im Sinne des Art. 6 EMRK, also dem Recht auf ein faires Verfahren, nicht aber andere Sanktionen wie administrative Ma nahmen wie zB den Lenkberechtigungsentzug und Disziplinarma nahmen. Die rechtskr ftige Aburteilung muss nicht vor einem Richter stammen, es kann sich durchaus auch um ein Urteil einer Verwaltungsbeh rde handeln, da man darunter die f rmliche Verh ngung einer Strafe wegen eines rechtswidrigen und schuldhaften Verhaltens, mithin also auch eine rechtskr ftige Strafverf gung oder ein solches Straferkenntnis, zB nach dem sterreichischen Verwaltungsstrafgesetz - VStG, einer Verwaltungsstrafbeh rde versteht. The German invasion of the Soviet Union during the Second World War was central to Nazi plans for territorial expansion and genocidal demographic revolution. To create 'living space', Nazi Germany pursued two policies. The first was the systematic murder of millions of Jews, Slavs, Roma, and other groups that the Nazis found undesirable on racial, religious, ethnic, ideological, hereditary, or behavioral grounds. It also pursued a parallel, albeit smaller, program to mobilize supposedly Germanic residents of Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union - so-called Volksdeutsche or ethnic Germans - as the vanguard of German expansion. This study recovers the intersection of these two projects in Transnistria, a portion of southern Ukraine that, because of its numerous Volksdeutsche communities, became an epicenter of both Nazi Volksdeutsche policy and the Holocaust in conquered Soviet territory, ultimately asking why local residents, whom German authorities identified as Volksdeutsche, participated in the Holocaust with apparent enthusiasm.
