I materiali consultati consentano di ricostruire in maniera puntuale i modi ed i tempi con i quali i due esploratori si scambiavano notizie relative sia alle rispettive attivit scientifiche che alle vicende della vita quotidiana, offrendoci in sostanza - e questo probabilmente l'aspetto di maggior interesse - uno spaccato di quasi trent'anni di esistenza di Filippo De Filippi e di Marc Aurel Stein.
Festival culture is an area which has attracted increasing interest in the field of Renaissance studies in recent years. Even though there are numerous books about European festivals, emphasizing their great importance for interdisciplinary study, the great tradition of court entertainment in the House of Savoy has been largely overlooked. Filippo d'Agli (1604-1667) dominated the musical life of seventeenth-century Turin, during the reign of Duchess Cristina, for more than three decades (1624-1660) with the creation of more than thirty ballets, carousels and tourneys, whose popularity magnified the political significance of court festivities, such as royal weddings, birthdays and carnivals. D'Agli 's ballets are undoubtedly among the masterpieces of the theatrical genre of the era. His surviving manuscripts clearly show the extend of his ingenuity and diversity of his artistic talents. He was one of the eminent personalities in the history of seventeenth-century Italy and his extraordinary talents as a musician, choreographer and poet transformed the royal entertainment of the day into an event of major historical, aristic and cultural significance.

Filippo Tommaso Marinetti: The Artist and His Politics explores the politics of the leader of the Futurist art movement. Emerging in Italy in 1909, Futurism sought to propel Italy into the modern world, and is famously known for outlandish claims to want to destroy museums and libraries in order to speed this transition. Futurism, however, also had a much darker political side. It glorified war as the solution to many of Italy’s ills, and was closely tied to the Fascist Regime. In this book, Ialongo focuses on Marinetti as the chief determinant of Futurist politics and explores how a seemingly revolutionary art movement, at one point having some support among revolutionary left-wing movements in Italy, could eventually become so intimately tied to the repressive Fascist regime. Ialongo traces Marinetti’s politics from before the foundation of Futurism, through the Great War, and then throughout the twenty-year Fascist dictatorship, using a wide range of published and unpublished sources. Il metodo seguito in questi saggi nel contempo di stampo storicistico e filologico-letterario. Gli autori hanno tentato di fornire ai lettori il massimo numero possibile di esemplificazioni testuali nello scopo di dar loro un'idea della ricchezza e dell'interesse di quell'immenso patrimonio, che per molti riguardi stato uno dei fondamenti della nostra cultura e della nostra sensibilit moderne e rimane tuttora in larga misura non debitamente sfruttato.
