On Route 66 in particular, It is not the great monuments or the great attractions that matter, but the ever unfolding view, the thousand tiny attractions, a miscellany that slowly reveals its unity. There is much that is eccentric along the route, but it is, for the most part, the eccentricity of ordinary people, both those who built it and those who preserve and memorialize it.Route 66 is a museum to ordinary eccentricity. On Route 66 you are doing what everyone who ever drove it was doing. You are driving to a real destination. You are following the Mother Road for real. No other museum gives you the opportunity to do the thing for real the way Route 66 does.This is an account of the transcontinental road trip that my wife, Anna, and I took in the spring of 2018 and of a second trip that we took the following year. We found much of what Route 66 and the other roads we took go through is ordinary. Some of it is goofy. Some of it is kitschy. Some of it is blatantly commercial. Some of it is gorgeous. Some of it is ugly. All of which makes it human: a human artifact and a human place, a place of ordinary eccentricity.

Throughout the world cotton is broadly adapted to growing in temperate, sub-tropical, and tropical environments, but growth may be challenged by future climate change. Production may be directly affected by changes in crop photosynthesis and water use due to rising CO2 and changes in regional temperature patterns. Indirect effects may result from a range of government regulations aimed at climate change mitigation. While there is certainty that future climate change will impact cotton production systems; there will be opportunities to adapt. This review begins to provide details for the formation of robust frameworks to evaluate the impact of projected climatic changes, highlight the risks and opportunities with adaptation, and details the approaches for investment in research. Ultimately, it is a multi-faceted systems-based approach that combines all elements of the cropping system that will provide the best insurance to harness the change that is occurring, and best allow cotton industries worldwide to adapt. Given that there will be no single solution for all of the challenges raised by climate change and variability, the best adaptation strategy for industry will be to develop more resilient systems. Early implementation of adaptation strategies, particularly in regard to enhancing resilience, has the potential to significantly reduce the negative impacts of climate change now and in the future.

Das Ziel blieb bis zuletzt dassel be: Die Psychiatrie der Gegenwart solI kein Handbuch im klassischen Sinn sein, solI keine liickenlose Darstellung des gesam- ten psychiatrischen Wissens bieten. Sie strebt auch nicht bibliographische Voll- standigkeit an. So spiegelt denn die Auswahl der Themen, ihre Gewichtung nach Seitenzahl vorwiegend das wider, was die vier Herausgeber fUr besonders wichtig und neu erachteten. Am Ende dieser 2. Auflage angelangt, konnte es verlockend sein, sich im Riickblick ein Urteil iiber die Fortschritte der Psychiatrie im Zeitraum von 15 J ahren' zu bilden. Dies auf beschranktem Platz darzustellen, wiirde jedoch den Rahmen eines Vorwortes sprengen. Und gerade hier wiirden sich wohl die unterschiedlichen Meinungen der Herausgeber offenbaren, wiirde der Kon- sensus, der sich in der Themen- und Autorenwahl herauskristallisiert hatte, kaum mehr moglich. So solI denn nur im Rahmen der Grundlagen und Methoden der Psychiatrie, deren erster Band hier vOrliegt und deren zweiter unmittelbar folgt, auf gewisse Unterschiede gegeniiber der 1. Auflage hingewiesen werden.
