The Theist by Gerrie J. Mooy author of "Surviving Mortality" is a case for God. Sub title: Why, The Purpose Driven Soul. The Theist is spiritual reality for the soul. The Theist loves God. This is a travel guide to spiritual fulfillment and a life of joy, a post retirement planning guide and a guide for the purpose driven soul. All truth and science is allied to the reality of God. Neither the limits of our senses nor the limits of science constitute the limits of reality. An eternal view awakens purpose and vital spiritual truths. It reveals our soul's journey through five states of awareness to our ultimate home. Life is a fieldtrip with amnesia of our pre-mortal experience. The enlightened soul sees beyond miracles and prophets of old, beyond social involvements and beyond traditional spiritual tools and sees the purpose of God to achieve His desired end. Faith is inseparably connected to the purpose of life. "Man is that he might have joy." Temporal and eternal joy is obtained by faith in and obedience to God. Faith exposes mysteries and the soul's eternal nature. Many are penny wise and pound-foolish in the na ve beliefs of God's non-existence and of man's own wisdom. The best advice you will ever follow, the best decision you will ever make, the most important thing you will ever accomplish and the best thing you will ever do for yourself and others is to align your will with the will of God. Faith and love expand awareness. Without the spirit there is no life. Without the soul there is no spirit. Law governs all things. Knowledge of and obedience to laws provide freedom and peace. All things have purpose. Existence is justified by purpose. Laws and purpose loudly proclaim God. We are not creations but beloved children of God.

The stories of those who lived in the city by the sea begin long before the 1878 date on the oldest headstone found in the city. Long Beach was the site of ceremonies, and perhaps the burial grounds, for the Tongva tribe. Many of those who later settled the city are buried in one of the four known cemeteries, Municipal, Sunnyside, Forest Lawn Long Beach, and All Souls. Two of the cemeteries hold the graves of several hundred Union and Confederate Civil War veterans, one Medal of Honor recipient, and a slave who served in the 1st Colored Heavy Artillery Regiment. The histories of the Municipal and Sunnyside Cemeteries include the 1921 discovery of oil, which made national news as descendants of the deceased fought for the oil underneath the graves. The fight resulted in a second Sunnyside Cemetery that later became Forest Lawn Long Beach. The scene of oil derricks surrounding the cemeteries was so surreal that it caught the attention of Ansel Adams, whose photographs of Sunnyside Cemetery are included.

This is a poetry of layers and echoes. Poems which bring together people and places - family relationships enacted through webs of intimacy or distance, the dead remembered in interleaved images of art and medicine. These are poems concerned with the living presence of place - and with what is written over it by maps and history, whether in the crash site of a military aircraft in Argyll, in the personal histories of an elegy or in the eroded landscapes of the Scottish hills. Here the living move through time and weather, making and remaking their own language in the music and silences of the poems.

Uncommon Place is a book rooted in Scotland's mountains and open spaces, its fenced enclosures and mined ground. It develops from earlier books what Tom Leonard has called "the most intelligent debate between technology and nature in poetry that I know." Through rivers, weather and wild creatures, as well as through industrial landscapes and urban spaces, the poems explore a core preoccupation, that of how we experience being in place, the relationship of the walker with the shifting nature of the place through which she walks. "Rooted in the local, the poems in this book deliver a profound understanding of emotions engendered by the geologies and natural histories of landscape and what it means to fully inhabit this country: true dwelling; compelling, unique, enduring poetry." -Gerry Loose

Shadow Box originated with a single piece, 'The Curiosities of Dr Hunter', a poem which gathered together many objects from Glasgow's Hunterian Museum in an investigation into the nature of eighteenth-century collecting; but the museum holds so many objects to catch the eye and imagination - cultural artefacts from across the world, scientific instruments, medical specimens, objects of the natural world - from which so many kinds of poem might be written. Here then are poems caught between the perfection of a single thing and a necessary enquiry into how the object came to be here, what its meanings might be, and who comes to be an observer here.
