Boken utgår från samtal som Wingårdh under ett decennium haft med psykoanalytikern och idéhistorikern Per Magnus Johansson samt arkitekten och arkitekturhistorikern Johan Linton, båda två från kulturtidskriften Arche. Samtalen kompletteras med en rik dokumentation, både saklig och personlig, av huvudpersonens verksamhet.
