Grace was a single child raised by loving parents; encouraged to do her best and to complete any projects that she started. She is slim, standing five foot ten inches with long blond hair. Her training in ballet as a youngster and a self-defense course in college left her with a smooth walk and great confidence in herself. Hank was also a single child. His father walked out on the family and his mother worked two or three jobs daily to help put him through college. He started delivering newspapers at eight and learned early that hard work paid off. This proved true after college and work became his crusade. The marriage of these two dominant personalities, with their strong individual work ethics, becomes a major challenge for them both. Add mystery, intrigue, disappointment, and life threatening experiences, and Grace's true essence delightfully unfolds as she becomes a woman in charge of her destiny.

This study will explore the biblical image of grace (and sin). Grace as a theological construct can be interpreted in a variety of ways among different Christian bodies. For some, for example, it might take on the extreme of "being able to sin boldly so that grace may abound." For others, the only knowledge of grace is how to fall from it. Within these extremes, lies the biblical understanding(s) of what grace is, how God mediates grace to humankind, and how persons embody that grace in their attitudes and behaviors to others.
Meet Grace, a fascinating Christian woman in her thirties who seems to have it all. She is an honest example of the complexity felt by many professional black women who secretly struggle with depression and the myth of "the Strong Black Woman." Grace challenges stereotypes about depression and provides women with an opportunity to identify with her, offering a model for faith, prioritizing self-care, and finding love.
Were one to seek a definitive meaning for the term "Grace," that seeker might become entangled in the various threads of connotation dictionaries ascribe to the concept. Merriam-Webster's Learner's Dictionary offers, "Unmerited divine assistance given humans for their regeneration or sanctification" as well as the archaic "mercy." Either and both of these adequately and succinctly describe the central theme of Mr. McInroy's novel. Smitty, Lyndi, Tara, Arthur, and Lottie/Ruth are led to their very own sanctified regeneration through the abundant mercy of God, Jesus, Paloma, Pam, Jerry Garcia, and Mary Elizabeth. Each ultimate destination is unique to the individual, and each path winds through a different sometimes bramble-clogged wilderness: Woodstock '94 and '99, Coney Island, and the mind of Empinada, inmate sister of the Holy Dove herself. Along the way the travelers will come to understand. Something. For what that's worth.Of primary importance: be aware that Fire is the friend of more than just the Devil.

The difference between belief and knowledge and the consequences of mistaking one for the other are at the heart of Craig Wright’s play Grace. An evangelical Christian couple, Sara and Steve, leave a dreary life in Minnesota for sunny Florida and the hope of fast money from turning abandoned hotels into a chain of gospel-themed inns. Their new neighbour, Sam, is struggling to emerge from the trauma of a car accident that killed his fiancée and left him badly maimed. And the building’s pest exterminator, Karl, is still tormented by a dark childhood episode. As their stories converge, Wright’s characters find themselves face-to-face with the most eternally vexing questions—the nature of faith, the meaning of suffering, and the possibility of redemption. Acidly funny and relentlessly searching, Grace is a trenchant work from an immensely gifted playwright.
Winner of the 2005 Donald Hall Prize in Poetry.Grace is John Hodgen’s third book of poetry. He is a poet of extreme contrasts, offering us the dregs of despair, yet instantly recalling hope in the beauty of nature or in a moment in time when all is right, when we realize grace. In “For the Leapers” the narrator relates, “We will fall past the angels, / we will fall from such height, / our tears will lift up from our eyes. / We will fall straight through hell. / And then we will rise.” Hodgen’s poems roam through history, religion, man-made disasters, baseball, pop culture, and Wal-Marts, on paths that come full circle with remarkable completeness, maturity, and dexterity.
