Gunter Grass' Geschichten werden im Sinne von Michail Bachtin polyphon erzahlt. Mehrstimmigkeit und Dialogizitat charakterisieren jedoch auch die Grass-Forschung. Je nach dem kulturellen Blickwinkel, der Disziplin sowie dem zeithistorischen Moment wird das Oeuvre des 1927 in Danzig Geborenen unterschiedlich gelesen. Und somit formt sich wie im Kaleidoskop eine andere Schwerpunktsetzung und es werden neue Interpretationsraume eroffnet. The Nobel Prize winner in Literature, who died in 2015, still inspires and provokes controversy. Gunter Grass's stories are written in polyphonic narration in the sense defined by Mikhail Bakhtin. Multivocality and dialogicity also characterise research dedicated to Grass. Depending on the cultural viewpoint, discipline and historical moment, the oeuvre of the author, born in Danzig in 1927, can be read in different ways. This results in a kaleidoscopic shift in focus and opens up new room for interpretation. The present volume is indebted to this plurality. Twenty-one authors from nine countries discuss the Grass phenomenon, drawing on approaches from memory studies, borderlands studies, intertextuality research, intermediality and postcolonial studies, among others.
Författare och provokatörGünter Grass var en tysk författare, Nobelpristagare i litteratur och Tysklands mest uppmärksammade skönlitterära författare under efterkrigstiden. Grass var också utbildad bildkonstnär, men kanske främst en provokatör och samhällspolitisk debattör som alltid stod det socialdemokratiska partiet nära.Hans första bok, som blev en internationell succé och som filmatiserades, är Blecktrumman. Det var en bred och egensinnig berättelse om tyskt liv och tysk politik speglad genom den lille pojken med trumman av bleck som växte upp och blev en spegel av Tysklands historia. Sedan följde en rad romaner, alla politiska och kontroversiella till innehållet.Packalén går systematiskt och infallsrikt igenom Grass hela produktion med inplacering av författaren i rollen som tyskt samvete och granskande öga. Inte minst spelade han en roll som politisk sanningssägare och diskuterade ständigt nazismens rötter och kvarlevande i tysk maktstruktur.I en av sina sista böcker kommer han också in på sina egna politiska hemligheter: hans aktiva deltagande som 17-åring i Waffen-SS.Sture Packalén är professor em. i tyska, bosatt i Uppsala. Som ämnesexpert har han författat ett stort antal artiklar om tyskspråkig litteratur i Nationalencyklopedin. Han har även skrivit läroböcker. I boken Tyska minnesgemenskaper tar han upp synen på Förintelsen i tysk litteratur efter 1945. Hans senaste bok Tysk litteratur presenterar den tyska litteraturens utveckling under tolvhundra år.

Blasphemie und transzendente Obdachlosigkeit sind wesentliche Paradigmen des Werks von Günter Grass. Trotzdem hat Grass eine theologisch reflektierte Literatur geschaffen. Der Band legt die theologische Dimension der literarischen Texte von Grass frei. So bringt er Literaturwissenschaft und Theologie in einen Dialog über Texte, in denen Gott zwar abwesend ist – dabei aber nie vergessen wird, dass es Gott ist, der abwesend ist.

Günter Grass hat sein Leben lang versucht, Grenzen zu überspringen und profiliert sich seit dem Anfang seiner künstlerischen Laufbahn als provokanter Grenzgänger zwischen zahlreichen ‚Welten‘, ohne diesen eindeutig zuzugehören. Saartje Gobyn zeigt auf, dass Grass auch innerhalb seiner Romane Grenzen überspringt, was in der Grassforschung bisher kaum bemerkt wurde. Weder Grass‘ Figuren noch seine Erzähler sind an ihre ‚Welten‘, in denen sie entworfen werden, gebunden. Sie bewegen sich frei durch die Romanwelten hindurch und erzeugen so häufig Metalepsen: alogische Überschreitungen zwischen der dargestellten Welt und der Welt, in der die Darstellung kreiert wird. Form und Funktion solcher Metalepsen werden in dieser Arbeit analysiert.
