Ascendi grado a grado de la posici n de soldado raso a la de brigadier general en solo cuatro a os. Siendo un general de brigada de 23 a os, con la pierna derecha incapacitada debido a una herida grave, luch montando su caballo con un aparato en su pierna, llevando a sus hombres a combatir.
