Religious Movements in Contemporary America

Religious Movements in Contemporary America

Irving I. Zaretsky; Mark P. Leone

Princeton University Press
2015
pokkari
Contemporary religious movements in America vary greatly in their organization, goals, methods, and membership. Reflecting the striking diversity of the current religious movement, the papers in this volume consider three categories of religious movements: native American churches, recently founded religious groups, and syncretistic groups based on imported cults. The general aim is to understand the varieties of human behavior within these institutions and to point out their relationship to society in the United States. Originally published in 1975. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Reflex Control of the Circulation presents an interdisciplinary discussion of concepts in the reflex control of circulation. This volume describes aspects of autonomic receptor physiology, central pathways of reflex control, the electrophysiology of cardiovascular afferents, the interaction between reflexes, the autonomic control of regional blood flows, the autonomic control of fluid and electrolyte balance, and neurohumoral control of the circulation through normal and pathological states (e.g., hypertension, congestive heart failure). In addition, the regulation of regional blood flow during exercise and developmental aspects of reflex control are examined. Any researcher interested in the autonomic system and its role in circulation will find this book fascinating reading.

Nonstationary Flows and Shock Waves

Nonstationary Flows and Shock Waves

Irvine I. Glass; J. P. Sislian

Clarendon Press
1994
sidottu
Nonstationary flows of gases (and liquids under high pressure) are of interest in many engineering problems. These include the study of shock waves arising from a very sudden release (explosion) of chemical, nuclear, electrical, or mechanical energy in a limited space, the study of the behaviour of media through which the shock propagate, and the investigation of the nonstationary motion of a mixture of gases in energy-producing devices and engines. Nonstationary flows are also relevant to modern physics and cosmology. In this book the reader will find all the important aspects of shock-tube and shock-wave research in pure and dusty gases, as well as dissociated and ionized boundary layers, spherical and cylindrical explosion and implosion phenomena, hypervelocity launchers, and shock-wave reflections, diffractions, and refractions. It is a unique book combining analytical numerical and experimental work, covering 40 years of continuous research in the area.
