Some killers leave bodies. The worst leave questions. A plane vanishes over the Indian Ocean. A woman dies in Illinois. Sean Kruger sees the pattern no one else can—Randolph Bishop's signature. The only killer who ever beat him is back. Six years ago, Kruger made a mistake. Bishop slipped away. Now he's returned, turning vengeance into an art form. Each death sends a message. Each crime scene mocks Kruger's failure. Bishop strikes at Kruger's family. Teaching college can't keep them safe. The killer plays a longer game, one that started the day he escaped. He's had six years to plan. Six years to perfect his revenge. The Impostor's Trail pits Kruger against a monster of his own making. J.C. Fields crafts a hunt where the predator becomes prey, and justice wears two faces. Some trails lead to redemption. Others to damnation. _________________________________ Praise for the Sean Kruger Series ? ? ? ? ? Some secrets are written in blood. Others in birth certificates. Mia Diminski grew up Texan, through and through. Then her husband, J.R., finds a file that rewrites her history. Her roots stretch across the Pacific, tangled in conspiracy. The truth about her father hides in classified documents. Now killers want those papers buried—along with anyone who’s read them. Sean Kruger knows retired means nothing when friends need help. But this case cuts deeper than most. Every clue points to a massive breach in national security. Every lead ends in another body. Someone's erasing evidence of a plan decades in the making. Time runs out. Government officials block the investigation. Assassins close in. Mia's past becomes America's future. Some trails lead home. Others lead to war. In The Manchurian's Trail, J.C. Fields crafts a Sean Kruger thriller where identity becomes a weapon, and the deadliest secrets are written in DNA. _________________________________ Praise for the Sean Kruger Series ? ? ? ? ? Logistic models are widely used in economics and other disciplines and are easily available as part of many statistical software packages. This text for graduates, practitioners and researchers in economics, medicine and statistics, which was originally published in 2003, explains the theory underlying logit analysis and gives a thorough explanation of the technique of estimation. The author has provided many empirical applications as illustrations and worked examples. A large data set - drawn from Dutch car ownership statistics - is provided online for readers to practise the techniques they have learned. Several varieties of logit model have been developed independently in various branches of biology, medicine and other disciplines. This book takes its inspiration from logit analysis as it is practised in economics, but it also pays due attention to developments in these other fields.

Caesar's path to safety will take them the length of Italy, and to familiar old lands in southern Gaul and Spain, where their friends and family now wait, believing themselves safe from hostilities. With a new officer stirring up trouble, Pompey and the senate defying them, a father-in-law busily incriminating himself and powerful Roman generals consolidating positions against them, Fronto and his friend are bound for that worst of all conflicts: Civil War.

The p-adic numbers, the earliest of local fields, were introduced by Hensel some 70 years ago as a natural tool in algebra number theory. Today the use of this and other local fields pervades much of mathematics, yet these simple and natural concepts, which often provide remarkably easy solutions to complex problems, are not as familiar as they should be. This book, based on postgraduate lectures at Cambridge, is meant to rectify this situation by providing a fairly elementary and self-contained introduction to local fields. After a general introduction, attention centres on the p-adic numbers and their use in number theory. There follow chapters on algebraic number theory, diophantine equations and on the analysis of a p-adic variable. This book will appeal to undergraduates, and even amateurs, interested in number theory, as well as to graduate students.

What is a dream but a fight against the odds? A struggle to rise above the ordinary and express a creativity that encapsulates the soul. When love is shared, that emotion becomes a dual consciousness. As a small child, Seth Ward had seen a valley filled with wild strawberry plants and imagined that one day he would own that land and cultivate those plants. Growing to adulthood and facing the harsh reality of raising two small children in Bloody Kansas of the 1850's, however, life was reduced to dreary survival and dreams were tucked away into the recesses of yesteryear. When love and remarriage came to Seth unexpectedly in the person of a strange, wild, nautical woman named Nelander, he shared his dream and she determined to make it a reality. A sad twist of fate brought the strawberry field into their possession and using the last of her seaman's savings, she bought 5,000 plants to add to the wild variety in the hope the family could make a success growing and selling the sweet berries. The enterprise faced nearly insurmountable obstacles but as often as disaster struck, the touch of a higher power seemed to guide their way. With the assistance of two former slaves, an elderly woman and her son, the small clan of "Kansas Pirates" persevered, ultimately discovering that one dream had the power to blossom into dozens.

The American Civil War destroyed slavery in the South. At first, most white Americans denied what would eventually seem self-evident. But black Americans saw clearly that the sectional conflict was their greatest opportunity for liberation. This volume of Freedom presents a documentary record of the transformation of the Civil War into a war against slavery, and the slaves' role in their own emancipation. The Destruction of Slavery shows the process by which a war for Union became a war for freedom. It demonstrates how three interrelated circumstances opened opportunities to slaves: first, the character of slave society; second, the course of the war itself; and third, the policies of the Union and Confederate governments. Together, they made emancipation an uneven, halting, and often tenuous process in which slaves played the central role.

Unique organization begins with an introduction to the basic information and topics pertinent to children of all ages, then divides up the rest of the text by age group to cover the specific changes the child experiences physically, cognitively, emotionally, and socially. In most cases, particular dental issues are discussed only once, at the point in a child's development at which they are most appropriate. Section on children from conception to age three covers conditions such as cleft palate, disturbances in calcification, unusual numbers of teeth, oral habits, caries, and the development of malocclusions that start during these years. Chapter on aesthetic restorative dentistry for the adolescent looks at material selection, tooth color and form, diastemas, discolored teeth, bleaching and more. Chapter on sport dentistry and mouth protection covers how to evaluate child/adolescent athletes, the different types of mouth protection available, and professional activities in sports dentistry. Chapter on the diagnosis of oral lesions and developmental anomalies uses tables and extensive illustrations to depict developmental anomalies, white soft tissue lesions and enlargements, dark soft tissue lesions, ulcerative lesions, radiolucent lesions of bone, mixed radiolucent and radiopaque lesions of bone.

The three essays in this volume present an introduction and history of the emancipation of the slaves during the Civil War. The first essay traces the destruction of slavery by discussing the shift from a war for the Union to a war against slavery. The slaves are shown to have shaped the destiny of the nation through their determination to place their liberty on the wartime agenda. The second essay examines the evolution of freedom in occupied areas of the lower and upper South. The struggle of those freed to obtain economic independence in difficult wartime circumstances indicates conflicting conceptions of freedom among former slaves and slaveholders, Northern soldiers and civilians. The third essay demonstrates how the enlistment and military service of nearly 200,000 slaves hastened the transformation of the war into a struggle for universal liberty, and how this experience shaped the lives of these former slaves long after the war had ended.
John Harper's Field. The Scotch-Irish Wars and Settlements of Colonial New England, the New York Borderlands, and the Ohio Frontier
Sixty years before the American Revolution, John Harper Sr. brought his family to America with the same expectations and dreams every immigrant wishes for his children. Few families, then and now, could ever match the accomplishments James Harper's progeny achieved in their first three American generations. Through several wars fought on different frontier fronts, the Harpers fought against French grenadiers, British regulars, German Hessians, and Iroquois and Abenaki warriors. From Maine and Massachusetts to Connecticut and on to New York, they helped tame one frontier after another. Their military careers would serve as a means to an end to help them reach their ultimate goal of owning land, and lots of it. John Harper Sr. was barely in his teens when he crossed the North Atlantic with his family and settled on Maine's Kennebec frontier at the height of the Anglo/Abenaki Wars. He mustered into a militia company and impressed his superiors with his ability to excel at frontier soldiering. His willingness to learn from his company's Mohawk scouts accustomed him to their culture, language, and way of waging war. This was to be the attitude he would instill in his four sons who would use it to help him realize his dreams of landownership. The period between the French and Indian War and the Revolution was a time of incredible opportunities for those who dared to risk it all for a patch of land in a wilderness fraught with danger and privation. The Harpers would not be content with just a few paternal acres on a riverfront homestead lot, setting their sights instead on building an empire of thousands of acres. Incredibly, they did indeed succeed in doing just that. Chronicling the trials and trails of the Harper family's three generational migration through New England to New York and on to Ohio, from the 1720s to the War of 1812, is the subject of this book. It embodies this one remarkable family's wars, political intrigues, and transgressions as a reflection of America's frontier zeitgeist and turbulent transformation from colony to country. The contributions of the members of this family of Scots-Irish immigrants to the success of the American Revolution and colonization of the western frontiers were profoundly significant. Viewed through the bright light and retrospective gaze of history, however, some of their achievements might seem tainted by their dearth of ethical concerns. The suffering and tragedies experienced by them and so many of their kinsmen who lived through those momentous times is worthy of our commemoration, if only to remind us of how indebted to them we truly are. Maps, portraits and other illustrations, and an index to full names, places, and subjects add to the value of this work.

Beta Reader Reviews: Sean: "This book combines emotional characters, visceral combat, and a slight pinch of humour to tell a story that leaves me wondering what is going to happen next. This book, in contrast to many modern stories, pulls no punches in regards to the content or prose. Something that I find refreshing. Overall, I found this book to be quite an enjoyable read, like a fast-paced Game of Thrones without the intrigue." 4/5 Stars Brad: "I found this work to be captivating, as the story goes along it draws you in to the plight of its characters within this enthralling fantasy world. It left me wanting more." 4/5 Stars
