The theory of finite fields, whose origins can be traced back to the works of Gauss and Galois, has played a part in various branches in mathematics. Inrecent years we have witnessed a resurgence of interest in finite fields, and this is partly due to important applications in coding theory and cryptography. The purpose of this book is to introduce the reader to some of these recent developments. It should be of interest to a wide range of students, researchers and practitioners in the disciplines of computer science, engineering and mathematics. We shall focus our attention on some specific recent developments in the theory and applications of finite fields. While the topics selected are treated in some depth, we have not attempted to be encyclopedic. Among the topics studied are different methods of representing the elements of a finite field (including normal bases and optimal normal bases), algorithms for factoring polynomials over finite fields, methods for constructing irreducible polynomials, the discrete logarithm problem and its implications to cryptography, the use of elliptic curves in constructing public key cryptosystems, and the uses of algebraic geometry in constructing good error-correcting codes. To limit the size of the volume we have been forced to omit some important applications of finite fields. Some of these missing applications are briefly mentioned in the Appendix along with some key references.

She only wanted to be a Mother to her own children-FLDS Cult leader had other plans. Sarah was born in 1979 in the FLDS compound. At eighteen, Sarah entered into an arranged marriage to Richard S Allred who was the grandson and personal bodyguard to leader Rulon Jeffs, and later Warren Jeffs. Sarah was the first of five wives and was often used to set the example. Sarah's husband was given Warren's prized daughter as his third wife who became Warren's source to control Sarah's family. As the Leadership adjusted, her world turned upside down. Rich was taken to a secret project to begin "Zion", and only those who are worthy could go. Rich came for her children, but Sarah was not worthy. She wasn't allowed to see or have contact with her children. Sarah came to realize Warren Jeffs was grooming her daughter to eventually become his wife. She wrote a letter, refusing to give permission. While traveling on a four-wheeler, the vehicle flipped and fell on her. She was in the hospital fighting for a month to survive told she would most likely be a paraplegic if she did survive.A few months later, still trying to heal from the accident, Sarah was told God no longer had a use for her. Therefore Sarah was cast out, thrown into a world she was taught to abhor and fear from birth.

This book features five peer-reviewed reviews on the implementation of agroforestry practices. The first chapter reviews the use of integrated crop-livestock systems, with a focus on agroforestry systems. The chapter discusses the potential environmental and economic benefits of agroforestry systems, as well as their contribution to animal health and welfare. The second chapter considers the plantation and management of temperate agroforestry systems which combine timber trees and herbaceous crops. The chapter covers choice of tree species, techniques of tree planting, plantation maintenance and approaches to tree pruning and thinning. The third chapter provides an overview of the implementation of alley cropping in agroforestry systems. The chapter explores the economic and ecological benefits of alley cropping, as well as the challenges and major considerations of implementing these practices within North America. The fourth chapter addresses the challenges and key issues in the sustainable production and use of willow as feedstock for biofuel production in northern temperate regions, including the issues of feedstock quality for biofuel use.The final chapter explores the contribution of agroforestry to meet global strategies to increase biodiversity while sustainably increasing agricultural systems resource efficiency.

Great Western Indian Fights: Two Dozen Of The Most Important Indian Battles In History is a book authored by B. W. Allred. The book provides a comprehensive account of twenty-four of the most significant battles fought between the Native American tribes and the United States Army in the Western region of the country. The book covers events from the early 1800s to the late 1800s, a period when the Native American tribes were struggling to maintain their independence and way of life against the relentless encroachment of the American settlers. The book details the tactics, strategies, and weapons used by both the Native American tribes and the United States Army during these battles. It also describes the key players involved in these conflicts, including the likes of Crazy Horse, Geronimo, and Sitting Bull, among others. Through vivid descriptions and first-hand accounts, the book brings to life the intense and brutal nature of these battles. The author explores the reasons behind the conflicts, the impact they had on the Native American tribes, and the consequences of these battles on the course of American history. Great Western Indian Fights: Two Dozen Of The Most Important Indian Battles In History is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of the American West, the Native American tribes, and the struggles they faced against the United States Army.Additional Editor Is D. J. C. Martin on Pulsed Power

As indicated in the Foreword to this series on Advances in Pulsed Power Technologies, the pioneering roots of modern pulsed power as related by J.C. "Charlie" Martin and his co-workers of the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment, Aldermaston, Reading UK is an important if not essential record of the experiential history of the major developer of pulsed power advances during the post-World War II period. It finds great utility as an instructive accounting of the trials, tribulations and, finally, an almost chronological walk through their thoughts as they diligently and happily travel the yellow brick road to success. It is recounted in the inimitable style of "Charlie" Martin as only he can relate, with some insightful perspectives by Mike Good man, a constant companion, and collaborator who shares his unique view of "Charlie" and the Aldermaston Group. This collection of selected articles is unique, for in large part, the documentation of their struggle and final triumph have not been formerly published in any archival manner. One reason, we suspect, was the defense-related application and significance of their work, compounded by the constant need for progress which did not allow for the time consuming preparation of formal submission to the literature. This also explains the "urgent" and sometimes terse manner of their writings. Yet the material remains remarkably current because we are dealing, in large measure, with pulsed systems less sensitive to those factors involved in slower pulsed scenarios.

What is now called JCPenney, a fixture of suburban shopping malls, started out as a small-town Main Street store that fused its founder's interests in agriculture, retail business, religion, and philanthropy. This book - at once a biography of Missouri farm boy-turned-business icon James Cash Penney and the story of the company he started in 1902 - brings to light the little-known agrarian roots of an American department store chain. David Delbert Kruger explores how the company, its stores, and their famous founder shaped rural America throughout the twentieth century. ""Most of our stores,"" Penney explained in 1931, ""are located in agricultural regions where the tide of merchandising rises and falls with the prosperity of the farmers."" Despite the growth of cities in the early twentieth century, Penney maintained his stores' commitment to serving the needs of farmers and small-town folk. Tracing this dedication to Penney's rural upbringing, Kruger describes how, from one store in the sheep-ranching and mining town of Kemmerer, Wyoming, J. C. Penney Co. became a familiar chain on Main Street, USA, purveying value, providing good jobs, and marking rites of passage in many an American childhood. Kruger paints a biographical and historical picture of an American business mogul distinctly different from comparable capitalists such as Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford, or Sam Walton. Despite his chain's corporate structure, Penney imbued each store with a Golden Rule philosophy that demanded mutual respect between customers, employees, competitors, suppliers, and communities. By tracing that spirit to its agrarian source, and following it through the twentieth century, J. C. Penney: The Man, the Store, and American Agriculture provides a new perspective on this American cultural institution - and on its founder's unique brand of American capitalism.
