And That Day Came

And That Day Came

Jacqulyn E Grant

Balboa Press
2018
sidottu
As soon as Jacqulyn Grant was born into a North Carolina sharecropper family as the seventh of nine children, she knew she was loved. While growing up without many material possessions, Jakki found joy in family get-togethers, imagining Superman as her father, and in embracing all who helped her develop as a person. In her inspirational memoir, Jakki intertwines her life story with personal reflections that lead others through her childhood memories as well as tales about the birth of her son, her relationships, and work experiences. Yet even as she achieved professonal success, Jakki reveals how she still felt broken, sad, and unfulfilledall while knowing she had something more inside to give. It was only until she learned to listen to angels and her inner-voice that Jakki finally improved her health, accepted her natural intuitive gifts, learned to love herself, and ultimately found the path to happiness. And That Day Came weaves stories and truths into an empowering memoir that offers a glimpse into how one womans experiences and angelic encounters helped shape her divine destiny.

Eloquent Bodies

Eloquent Bodies

Jacqueline E. Jung

A radical reassessment of the role of movement, emotion, and the viewing experience in Gothic sculpture Gothic cathedrals in northern Europe dazzle visitors with arrays of sculpted saints, angels, and noble patrons adorning their portals and interiors. In this highly original and erudite volume, Jacqueline E. Jung explores how medieval sculptors used a form of bodily poetics—involving facial expression, gesture, stance, and torsion—to create meanings beyond conventional iconography and to subtly manipulate spatial dynamics, forging connections between the sculptures and beholders. Filled with more than 500 images that capture the suppleness and dynamism of cathedral sculpture, often through multiple angles, Eloquent Bodies demonstrates how viewers confronted and, in turn, were addressed by sculptures at major cathedrals in France and Germany, from Chartres and Reims to Strasbourg, Bamberg, Magdeburg, and Naumburg. Shedding new light on the charismatic and kinetic qualities of Gothic sculpture, this book also illuminates the ways artistic ingenuity and technical skill converged to enliven sacred spaces.

Whispering the Word

Whispering the Word

Jacqueline E. Lapsley

Many Christian feminists wonder if they can simultaneously maintain their commitment to principles of gender equality and their faith in the Scriptures, particularly the Old Testament. Writing in response to feminist biblical scholars who approach the Old Testament with a hermeneutic of suspicion, Jacqueline Lapsley offers Christian feminists strategies to hear the subtle ideas and voices of the less powerful within the Old Testament texts. Reading and interpreting a number of Old Testament narratives in which women are prominent, Lapsley considers how these stories may reflect God's word for us. In doing so, she demonstrates how the narrative often attempts to shape the moral response of the reader by revealing the intricacy and complexity of the moral world evoked. In this gentle shaping of the reader's ethical sensibilities, she argues, is where God may be whispering a word for us.

Do you believe in ghosts? Michael Sinclair does. At twenty-seven, he has spent his entire life perfecting the art of pretending that the ghosts he encounters on a daily basis do not exist. Now, if only the dead would let him rest in peace. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem likely, especially after Kate Avery and her ailing brother, Gavin, move in next door. Kate and Gavin are haunted, and not by a dearly departed loved one. This spirit is aggressive, menacing, and harboring a dark resentment toward Gavin. In spite of every instinct advising him to walk away, Michael finds himself seeking to uncover the mysteries of Gavin's past, and falling for the bright and lovely Kate. Yet competing for her affection is Luke Rainer, television's hottest celebrity ghost hunter and the only (living) person to know Michael's secret. But the dead have secrets, too. Some will go to any length to withhold what should have gone with them to the grave, while others will risk everything to make their voices heard, even if that means putting another's life at stake. Now, for the sake of friends and strangers alike, Michael must choose between preserving his cherished anonymity and lending his aid to those for whom all hope seems lost.

"It all started with a crush. How clich is that? I mean, of all the things to motivate a person to do something, how often does it go back to a silly infatuation? More often than most of us would probably care to admit. Of course, this wasn't an ordinary crush on a cute coworker or a charming friend of a friend I hooked up with at a party. No, I've never met the man who inspired my books. But I'm about to." Delaney Brooks is the author of The Queen's Surrogate, the "sinfully satisfactory" romance novel that swept readers around the world off their feet and into the fictional embrace of His Majesty, King Malcolm. When her book is adapted into an eight-part miniseries, Delaney and her best friend Gemma fly to Scotland for what promises to be two months of lush green mountains, historic castles, and hot celebrity co-workers, including the gorgeous Matthew Kent, British playboy Benjamin Wyndham, and Hollywood's hottest reformed rebel, Colin Ward.* Author's Note: Not Erotica *

This comparative empirical study of policing in the United States and France draws on the authors' ten years of field work to contend that the police in both countries should be thought about as an amalgam of five distinct professional cultures or 'intelligence regimes'-each of which can be found in any given police department in both the United States and France. In particular, we contend that what police do as knowledge workers and how they make sense of the social problems such as collective offending by juveniles varies with the professional subcommunities or 'intelligence regimes' in which their particular knowledge work is embedded. The same problem can be looked at in fundamentally different ways even within a single police department, depending on the intelligence regime through which the problem is refracted.
