Stanford Grandling has plenty of secrets and only one dead body, but the time is coming when she will have to reconcile both. A younger sister driven crazy by the past that they share and a secret so vile it could destroy what is left of the small town of Black Creek, Stannie faces and makes decisions that will change the course of every life stained by the secret buried in Black Creek. Sanctified is a story of devastating loss and the horrifying prospect that the process of redemption can be just as devastating.

A free spirited book meant to be loved by all children. Inspired by the author's 2-year-old neice. Review Jamie Graham, author of "Uncle Jamie's Super Helmet Show" has recently enjoyed media attention in his hometown of Kirksville, Missouri. In addition to a book signing with The Vintage Book Shoppe, a local Kirksville book store, both the Kirksville Daily Express and TruLife newspapers wrote stories chronicling Graham's success. Mr. Graham, a hearing impaired children's author overcame a medical misdiagnosis in his Fourties and was encouraged to share his love of pictures and story writing. As a child Mr. Graham used drawing and writing as a medium of communication. He felt it expressed his ideas and feelings more accurately than speech. "Uncle Jamie's Super Helmet Show" was inspired by an encounter with his niece, Lauren Haley Brown. He is thrilled with the success of his book as he "always wanted to give kids] all a present, and now I get to give everyone a present." In addition to being a children's author Graham is a member of the Special Olympics Hall of Fame and a Self-Advocate for the Missouri Planning Council for Developmental Disabilities. Graham is pleased to note that Joe DiMaggio, John Ashcroft and Queen Elizabeth II have admired his artwork. Jamie Graham is currently working on a new book, a compilation of three stories and his new goal is an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show.

Positioned west of the Cuyahoga River and occupying 96 acres is Riverside Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio. Established in 1876, Riverside Cemetery was the long-term solution to the ever-growing suburbs of Cleveland's west side. A nephew to one of the earliest settlers, Titus Brainard sold 102.25 acres of his farm to the association under conditions that the cemetery never be sold to the city and that all persons be accepted for burial regardless of background. And so began the development of the landscape and roadways, much of which has changed in the nearly 150 years of service. Riverside Cemetery has become the permanent home to generations of families, each with their own stories, accomplishments, hardships, and journeys that we strive to capture in this book.Jamie Lynne Owens is a fifth-generation staff member of Riverside Cemetery and has committed herself to the historic preservation of the cemetery. William G. Krejci is a local historian and author whose special interest in Riverside Cemetery lies within his interest of early cemeteries of the Western Reserve, with Riverside's garden-like setting being one of the greatest examples. Images found in this book are from the archives of Riverside Cemetery, Cleveland Public Library, and the Library of Congress as well as original work of photographer Deb Zimmerman.

The story of Virginia is at the centre of the American experience. World-changing, pivotal events of the nation have most often taken place in Virginia or been meaningfully shaped by Virginians. The ideas most cherished by Americans were oft inspired and contested in the state, with lasting consequence. The history of the “mother of states” and the “mother of presidents” is long, rich, and complex. While Virginians have offered ideas with lasting positive global impact, they also have engaged in tragic fights and have allowed unmistakable injustices. In a 200-page sampling of letters, documents, artefacts, paintings, furniture, silver and other decorative objects, along with books, maps, prints, broadsides, guns, uniforms, period photographs and utilitarian objects, a unique and lavishly illustrated history of Virginia is provided.

Effective risk management in law firms has never been more important. Lawyers must contend with the long-standing risks associated with the practice of law, such as anti-money laundering and issues of client confidentiality, as well as new risk areas such as data protection and cybersecurity, and increased regulatory burdens. Poor handling of these risks can lead to reputational damage, diminished client relationships, and even regulatory action, and so it is critical for law firms to remain vigilant and put in place robust risk management policies, processes and systems. Risk Management in Law Firms brings together lawyers, consultants and other risk and compliance professionals to provide expert and practical guidance on essential risk management topics. Chapters cover risks relating to clients, internal operations and law and regulation, and address recent developments including issues arising from the shift to hybrid working, the increased focus on ESG and climate change, and the extended influence of clients through outside counsel guidelines. There is also consideration of the future of risk management with coverage of the proposed changes to the SRA Codes of Conduct to address issues relating to wellbeing and unfair treatment at work, and the commercial opportunities for law firms and individual lawyers presented by the increasingly flexible principles-based regulation. This title aims to help law firm leaders and individual lawyers understand and prepare for the risks they face – as well effectively handle them when issues do arise – whether they occur in the firm’s internal operations or its dealings with clients. In-house counsel and others will also find it useful to understand their law firm colleagues better, enhancing professional relationships. With the comprehensive coverage of key risk areas in this title, lawyers and firms can not only ensure compliance, but also maintain healthy client relationships, educated staff, a positive reputation, and continued success and growth.

In this fertile collection of essays, prominent theologians, philosophers, historians, and social scientists explore the mutual entanglements of religious identity with political activity in religiously plural societies. Four essays are devoted to each of the three great religions of The Book, evidencing the variety of conceptions of such a relation within the same religious tradition and demonstrating how they came to be so conceived. In addition, the three sections together display intriguing similarities between the conceptions that are pertinent to the different traditions. These range from definant theocracy to religious sanction of the liberal, secular state.

The contributors to this volume draw on a non-dogmatic Marxist approach to explain the systemic and conjunctural dynamics of crisis inherent in global capitalism. Their analysis asks what is historically specific to capitalism’s crises while avoiding catastrophic or defeatist claims. At the same time the volume situates left agency within actual patterns of resistance and class struggle to clarify the potential for transformative change. The cycle of resistance strengthened by the World social Forum and transnational activism is now punctuated by the experience of the Arab spring, the agency of antisystemic movements, left think tanks, the Occupy Wall street Movement, labour unions, left parties in europe such as syrizia and Podemos and peoples’ budgeting in Kerala, india. On the down side we are witnessing the waning of the Workers Party in Brazil and serious challenges for south Africa’s once powerful labour movement and still formative social justice activism. All these developments are assessed in this volume. This is the second volume in the Democratic Marxism series. it elaborates on crucial themes introduced in the first volume, Marxisms in the 21st Century: Crisis, Critique and Struggle (edited by Michelle Williams and vishwas satgar).

Thirty-six of the most interesting writers in the Pacific Northwest came together for a week-long marathon of writing live on stage. The result? Hotel Angeline, a truly inventive novel that surprises at every turn of the page.Something is amiss at the Hotel Angeline, a rickety former mortuary perched atop Capitol Hill in rain-soaked Seattle. Fourteen-year-old Alexis Austin is fixing the plumbing, the tea, and all the problems of the world, it seems, in her landlady mother’s absence. The quirky tenants—a hilarious mix of misfits and rabble-rousers from days gone by—rely on Alexis all the more when they discover a plot to sell the Hotel. Can Alexis save their home? Find her real father? Deal with her surrogate dad’s dicey past? Find true love? Perhaps only their feisty pet crow, Habib, truly knows.Provoking interesting questions about the creative process, this novel is by turns funny, scary, witty, suspenseful, beautiful, thrilling, and unexpected.
