College Physics: Putting It All Together is an algebra-based physics text designed for the first year, non-calculus college course. Although it covers the traditional topics in the traditional order, this book is very different from its over-inflated and overpriced competitors. College Physics: Putting It All Together: features a clear and streamlined narrative. When the authors break away to introduce a worked example, it is introduced in the text and is directly related to the subject preceding it.tells the students what they need to know to solve the homework and test problems without a lot of unnecessary puffery.keeps students engaged with a friendly and even occasionally humorous writing style, and droll illustrations.handles common student misconceptions in difficult topics by weaving them into the narrative.retains key textbook elements that are truly useful, such as worked examples, summaries and plenty of chapter-ending problems.priced affordably for your students. This textbook is a ground-breaking iconoclast in this market, answering a clear demand from physics instructors for a clearer, shorter, more readable and less expensive introductory textbook.

Over 250 old photographs, many published for the first time, appear in this new collection covering the districts of Roath, Splott and Adamsdown. This area, along with Penylan, Tremorfa and part of Cathays, once had a collective unity as the ecclesiastical parish of Roath created in the late sixteenth century. Roath as an historical entity is much older, however. Reputed to be pre-Norman in origin, in its time it has served as a manor, parish and village as well as a latter-day Cardiff suburb. Although earlier centuries are not neglected, particular focus is given to the period 1890 to 1950, which saw the emergence and maturity of these communities so familiar to present-day Cardiffians. Scenes of streetlife, work, worship and leisure are captured in a wide variety of often striking and atmospheric images. These are amplified by the fascinating historical detail in the captions providing the reader with a vivid appreciation of the richly significant past of this part of Cardiff.

THE COACH AND THE GEEK is a fictional story written for business leaders. This story follows the challenges of a college basketball coach who is about to lose his job. The team has talent, but the culture is trapped within a history of failure, negativity, and blame. Through fate, he meets a senior software manager (aka Coach Geek) who just got fired. Together, they develop an unlikely partnership and new approach that changes their team, their season, and their lives.Learn how to coach, connect with, gain buy-in, and build accountability in your team. Throughout the book, the authors share many actionable lessons from their lives as coaches and leaders.ForewordOver more than thirty years, my professional journey has taken me from battlefield to boardroom and from cockpit to corporate. Throughout I have served as a serial CEO in the public, private and private equity sectors. In each subsequent engagement, I have rigorously sought to recreate the culture of commitment I enjoyed earlier in my career as a commissioned officer and AH-64 Apache helicopter pilot in the U.S. Army.As part of my very personal journey of continuous improvement, I've remained a lifelong learner and student practitioner of principle-centered leadership. Principle-centered leadership provides the foundation upon which execution excellence is built. In building a culture committed to continuous improvement, one destined for excellence, those at the helm of the organization must consider self-mastery-the ability to lead oneself-as vital to leading others competently.I've heard it said, "Humans can live three weeks without food, three days without water and three minutes without air, but not one second longer without hope." In THE COACH AND THE GEEK, Building a Kick-Butt Culture, Adams and Van Fleet offer a hope-filled tutorial on principle-centered leadership through an entertaining, inspiring and always fun to read sports novelette. These entrepreneurs and seasoned business leaders codify practical, everyday principles of self-mastery that help the protagonist overcome the despair of personal struggles, professional failures and a life devoid of hope. In their work, they capture time tested methods to bounce back from seemingly insurmountable odds with discipline and delight. Each chapter introduces self-mastery principles for leaders in all stages of development. Whether currently a CEO, a department head, a company founder or a budding entrepreneur, this work is intended as an aid for aspiring leaders at every level of development aiming to produce daily their career best effort.Like me, I suspect you will find hope within its pages.Mark A. Parrish, Managing Partner of Parrish Partners, President & CEO (former) of Igloo Products Corp, President & CEO (former) of Stuart Dean Company, Inc., Graduate of the United States Military Academy, West Point and former US Army Captain

Rufus Enterprise chooses Seal Island in King George Sound in the Southern Ocean of Western Australia as the site for his sealing operation. He appoints Tom Elder as his leader with four ex-convicts, Bob Beater, Dick Dental, Harry Heeler, and Sam Scullion to assist him. A group of boys are shanghaied, press-ganged, and purchased to make up the unpaid workforce on Seal Island. The boys are worked hard and treated badly, but some learn invaluable skills under the tutelage of Harry Heeler and Sam Scullion.A sudden fierce storm sees an East Indiaman ship flounder and founder near Seal Island, but efforts to get a line out to her prove futile. The ship sinks, but there is one survivor, a 'boy in fancy togs' called Adam. Adam is a problem for Rufus Enterprise. He might be worth a ransom or reward, but he also may have seen enough to bring the operation on Seal Island undone. Adam befriends Benjamin and shares with him the dream for a better life. When Rufus Enterprises hears of this so-called dream, he is furious and decides to deal the problem in a wicked way, through a ritual castaway. He retells the terrifying tales and legends of 'Old John' Sullivan to frighten the boys into submission and stamp out all talk of dreams and dreamers.Benjamin shares the dream with six others who become 'outcasts', when a 'snitch' called Jake, brings them undone. Rufus Enterprise, now infused with a black miasma, is teetering on the edge of madness, and his unstable state explodes into death and destruction. How all this is resolved is the story of the Seal Island band.

When Jeff Stetson's Daddy decides to try manufacturing Jeans in Thailand, Jeff decides he ought to go see the operation for himself. As Jeff begins to travel the world in pursuit of justice and a great piece of steak, it dawns on him that all is not as it seems: a shadow organization known only as A.S.P. is lurking, perhaps smuggling a white powdery substance into the United States... could it be baking soda? This trilogy volume includes Book 1, Beatdown in Bangkok; Book 2, Mayhem in Marrakesh; and Book 3, Pandemonium in Paradise, plus a bonus short story, "A Very Stetson Christmas" ... which sets up the second volume in the Stetson Jeff Adventures. Follow Jeff from Southeast Asia to the western Sahara Desert to Amish country in Pennsylvania as he creeps closer and closer to discovering what A.S.P. is really up to. Jeff is guided by a great deal of wisdom passed down by Jeremiah P. Johnstone's book Ranger Discoveries, which Jeff seems to have memorized in full. This satirical action/adventure comedic fiction will take you back to the 1980s when MacGyver was on TV. Our Hero, Stetson Jeff is inspired by Walker, Texas Ranger, and Forrest Gump, Inspector Clouseau of Pink Panther fame, with a dash of Crocodile Dundee, and The Witness. Each book is set in a new country in the same vein as the great French-language comic heroes Asterix and Obelix. Don't miss Volume Two, when Jeff travels to Belize, Spain, and beyond
