This book is the second of the series. This book looks closely at the data within the Book of Mormon. Most Mormons do not know that there are several editions of the Book of Mormon, and the LDS Church has made unannounced edits to the Book of Mormon in every edition. All names used in the Book of Mormon are listed in a catalog with simple explanations of where these names may have come from. The Sermon on the Mount is in the Book of Mormon. A word for word comparison is made with the Sermon on the Mount as recorded in Matthew. Several chapters of Isaiah have been copied into the Book of Mormon, and then edited. Each difference is displayed and examined. All prophecies in the Book of Mormon are listed in the sequence they were given. Each prophecy is discussed and a status given. Prophecies that are false are highlighted so that they can be referenced easily.
Crisis Call For New Preventive Medicine, A: Emerging Effects Of Lifestyle On Morbidity And Mortality
Of the ten most common causes of death in industrialized countries, at least two-thirds are lifestyle related (i.e. poor nutrition, physical inactivity, overweight/obesity, cigarette smoking, alcohol/drug abuse and the environment, among others). The rapidly expanding elder population will put further demands on health care systems already burdened by the elderly and the poor. However, increasing age need not be associated with expanding health care costs if people improve their lifestyles.Healthier lifestyles would signficantly reduce the incidence of coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, peripheral vascular disease, cataract and macular degeneration, among others. Moreover, they would significantly increase life expectancy and the quality of life. This invaluable book reviews the scientific medical evidence for the benefits of healthy lifestyles on aging, numerous diseases/disorders, and reduction of medical costs.
The Silent Knight: A History of St. Joseph as Depicted in Art
Images of St Joseph are ubiquitous in the modern Catholic devotional landscape with his statues and figurines standing sentinel in every church and creche, but this was not always the case. The husband of Mary and foster father of Jesus spent the first centuries of Christian art as a great absentee, unaccounted for in visual representations of Christ's birth and infancy. The Silent Knight explores and chronicles the remarkable rise of Joseph's iconography through masterpieces by some of history's greatest artists. The first depictions of Joseph appeared in the fifth century, gradually evolving as the Church grew, accompanying the faithful through the vicissitudes of ecclesiastical history. Josephine imagery adapted at various times to provide inspirational role models for fathers, husbands, workers, the moribund, and even the pope, depending on the circumstances, leading to a striking variety of depictions in the history of art. Each chapter of this book reveals a different facet of Joseph, contextualized in the history, spirituality, or controversy of the age, and demonstrates how artists applied their creative talents to communicate Joseph's intercessory power to their audiences. Through the words and prayers of Saints Bernard of Clairvaux, Francis of Assisi, Bridget of Sweden, Francis de Sales, Teresa of Avila, Pius IX, and John Paul II, readers will learn how devotion to Joseph expanded in both the breadth of his intercessory powers and his geographical area of influence, galvanizing painters and sculptors to produce fascinating innovations in his iconography. This richly illustrated book will guide readers through a spectacular gallery of images by Raphael, Michelangelo, Murillo, Giotto, Caravaggio, El Greco, and more, illustrating how each one of these creative geniuses chose to highlight the increasing number of attributes ascribed to this silent saint. Written to celebrate the Year of St Joseph declared by Pope Francis, The Silent Knight aims to deepen the faithful's knowledge, appreciation, and devotion to this eminent Patron of the Universal Church through the extraordinary beauty that he has inspired.

Having learned English by 1956, Sicilian Knight in New York City is an immigrant boy's coming of age memoir about his first five years in America--trying to fit in and adjust to life as a pre-teen and teen in New York during the late 1950s and early '60s. Different chapter, different story, different year. The book doesn't have to be read all at once. Each chapter can be read separately and stand alone as a short story. Each vignette is connected by humor, friendship and joy--with the music of the '50s and '60s as a backdrop. A couple of the stories also deal with kindness, loneliness and lost innocence. The last chapter, taking place in 1989, revisits 1958, two twelve-year old friends and their happy memories--which remind them of regrets, words left unsaid and their unhealed emotional wounds. Joseph Romano became a proud American citizen on December 29, 1960. Enlisting in the United States Army eleven days after graduating from the City College of New York, he was permanently retired in 1976 due to service-connected disabilities. He enjoys reading, gardening, oil painting and writing. His second book, Sicilian Knight in New York City, is a continuation of Sicilian Knight-memories of his first six years in America. Mr. Romano has a Masters in History from NYU and enjoys traveling and playing blackjack in Las Vegas. He's been married since 1976 to Erlinda, and they have one daughter-Caterina-who lives in Manhattan. He loves New York City-it has his heart and will always be his home-but the great weather in San Diego has been holding him captive since 1983.

Ex-cop turned #1 New York Times bestselling writer Joseph Wambaugh forged a new kind of literature with his great early police procedurals. Gritty, luminous, and ultimately stunning, this novel is Wambaugh at his best--a tale of a street cop on the hardest beat of his life. Twenty and two. Those are the numbers turning in the mind of William "Bumper" Morgan: twenty years on the job, two days before he "pulls the pin" and walks away from it forever. But on the gritty streets of L.A., people look at Bumper like some kind of knight in armor--they've plied him with come-ons, hot tips, and the hard respect a man can't earn anywhere else. Now, with a new job and a good woman waiting for him, a kinky thief terrorizing L.A.'s choice hotels, and a tragedy looming, Bumper Morgan is about to face the only thing that can scare him: the demons that he's been hiding behind his bright and shiny badge...
