"Justine oder vom Missgeschick der Tugend" (franz. Originaltitel: Justine ou les Malheurs de la vertu) ist ein Roman des Schriftstellers Marquis de Sade, den er 1787 w hrend seiner Inhaftierung in der Bastille verfasste. De Sade fertigte seinen Roman in drei Fassungen (1. Fassung 1787, 2. Fassung 1791 und 3. Fassung 1797). Bei diesem Buch handelt es sich um die dritte und ausf hrlichste Fassung des Werks. Die Urfassung wurde von de Sade innerhalb von zwei Wochen erstellt und erst 1909 von Guillaume Apollinaire wiederentdeckt. Die sp teren Varianten enthalten neue Episoden und Erweiterungen der alten Episoden. Besonders in der dritten Fassung wurden zahlreiche ins Detail gehende sadomasochistische Obsz nit ten hinzugef gt. Justine hingegen w hlt den Weg der Tugend, erlebt hierbei eine Reihe von Abenteuern und Missgeschicken und wird fortw hrend Verfolgungen und Erniedrigungen ausgesetzt, bis sie - wegen Mordes und Brandstiftung unter Anklage stehend - wieder ihre Schwester trifft, der sie ihr Lebensschicksal erz hlt, bevor sie in einem Gewitter vom Blitz erschlagen wird.

Mais, c' tait peine perdue car j'allais connaitre le m me sort que ces derni res. Je me suis mise alors faire des reproches Dieu. Je lui ai dit: si c'est l le sort que tu as r serv aux femmes, je doute fort que tu sois le Dieu d'amour dont parle la Bible. C'est l qu'Il me r pondit du fond de mon coeur en disant que le plan dans lequel nous vivions n' tait pas le Sien.
