To love and be loved is arguably one of the most powerful and fundamental driving forces sustaining self-esteem and self-identity throughout the life course. Need for reciprocal loving does not change as we grow older, despite failures of health, loss of a partner, late divorce, and alterations of personality due to the aging process. However, most studies of human sexuality have ignored the problems and developing patterns of older adults entering into new partnerships. To fill this gap, Intimacy in Later Life brings together a wide range of distinguished international scholars to address this neglected research area.

Feminism has been defeated.Once a politics, feminism is now a philosophy, an epistemology, a method. Once for women, it is now for everyone. Once in pursuit of liberation, it now seeks only inclusion. In Feminism, Defeated, Kate Phelan traces the depoliticization and ultimately, the defeat of feminism. She recovers the second-wave view of men and women as sex-classes, enemies, political kinds, a view more radical than the contemporary view of men and women as social constructs. She also describes how poststructuralism displaced this view and replaced it with another. In this view, the sex/gender binary constructs men and women, and excludes the gender nonconforming. As this view replaced the second-wave one, the injustice of men’s oppression of women was replaced by that of exclusion, and the goal of women’s liberation was replaced by that of inclusion. Thus did feminism become the trans-inclusionary movement as which we now know it, and Phelan shows that this shift was not the progression of feminism; it was the betrayal of it. In this highly original and persuasive study, she argues that the recent emergence of a new gender-critical feminism presents a moment of opportunity to reclaim feminism’s political project.

Falling down the corporate rabbit hole can be good for your career. In today's rapidly changing business world it's difficult to know how to compete. How do we innovate; what strategies should we pursue in order to stand out from our rivals; just how can one keep up - let alone get ahead - in this maddeningly volatile environment? It turns out that the larger-than-life characters, arbitrary rules and nonsensical situations of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass can help us navigate the new era of business.Carroll's books are a window onto today's business world. They teach us that rules are invented by those in charge to suit a situation, that authority can be questioned and that white rabbits often wear waistcoats. If you regularly take part in meetings, the Mad Hatter's tea party - messy, seemingly eternal and completely pointless - might seem all too familiar. In Alice in strategy land readers will discover:* How to manage the unexpected, with the help of Alice, a flamingo and a hedgehog;* Ways to speed up time, using the wisdom of the Hatter;* How to avoid running so hard just to stand still, with the Red Queen's assistance;* Why the White Knight can help them to focus on what's important.Thinking outside the box is no longer sufficient. Alice in Strategy Land shows managers and managed alike how to turn Carroll's surreal imagination to their advantage.
