Are you seeing your mates this arvo because it’s been yonks? Do you shout ’ave a go, ya mug to your football team from the stands? Or tell your mate his team has got Buckley’s chance of winning the AFL Grand Final? Do you mutter ‘stone the crows’ when surprised? Or have you got your wobbly boots on? Perhaps you’ve recently developed a verandah bum. Aussie English may be the most inventive and creative language in the world. This larrikin lexicography by Kel Richards tells the stories behind almost a thousand Aussie words and phrases. So if you’ve ever wondered how ‘bloody’ became an all-purpose swear word, why ‘bludger’ means a lazy person, or even what ‘dangle the dunlops’, ‘possum knockers’ or ‘molly-dooker’ might mean, then you need to read this bonzer book.
"In high school, teachers made such a big deal about college and how hard the coursework would be. They talked about how tough the professors would be on late work and how we had to bring our A-game. The crazy part about all of this is that I have an easier time in the classroom than I do in my personal life. Nobody told me how to handle the bullshit that I would face outside of the classroom. Anywho, I'm Kelly Pierce, Kel for short, and I decided to further my education at the University of Florida in Miami. Here's my story, but I should warn you, you might judge me after this..."

Based on the western song "Utah Kel", this is the story of two friends, Utah Kel Johnson and Gayle Tex Bodily. Utah and Tex, at the young age of 17, leave their homes in west Texas seeking to find work on a trail drive. They meet an old cowboy named Jake Griffith who takes them under his wing and teaches them what they need to know to herd cattle and how to survive on the prairie. Utah and Tex help Jake get his cattle to Laredo where they are hired on by Martin McMillan a longtime friend of Jakes. They begin one of the last big trail drives to Abilene, Kansas. Along the way Utah acquires an unwanted reputation of being good with a gun. Men begin to seek out Utah to test their own skill against his. Tex meanwhile begins to wonder about the universe and the world around him. His curiosity leads Tex to seek out the Mormon religion. Their adventures are a heartwarming mixture of happiness and sadness that will touch your heart. A good old fashioned western story of cattle drives, rustlers, gun fights and finding love along the way.
