So, the dictionary says that Harlot means prostitute, or a whore; basically someone who doesn't own their own body. I was named Harlot because my body was sold before my birth. I am a vessel for others to possess. It's not as exciting as it sounds, I never remember when it happens. They must have thought it was hilarious to name me Harlot, a little stab in the heart. I've actually grown quite fond of it now.
As a sculptor and role model to aspiring young artists, Lee Kelly has played a significant role in creating the Northwest regional art scene. This book documents his sixty year career. His work has traversed the aesthetic developments of gestural abstraction, minimalism, and post-modernism, while his vocabulary has always retained a core focus on the balance and grace of architectural geometry and a craftsman's respect and understanding of the materials at hand. His work is both an art of contemplation and active experience. The text explores Kelly's impact on the art of the Northwest, his public art projects, and places his work in relation to post-World War II American sculpture.

For over five decades, Lee Kelly has been widely recognized as one of the Pacific Northwest's pre-eminent sculptors, an acclaim founded on extensive bodies of work in both stainless steel and Cor-ten steel, often at monumental scale. In 2013, Lee Kelly created a significant body of new work, a series of nine paintings exhibited at the Elizabeth Leach Gallery in Portland, Oregon, as part of Kelly's exhibition called "Pavilions." This series, entitled "One through Nine", are oil on canvas paintings, a medium the artist had largely abandoned in 1963. However, these new paintings do not represent a return to Kelly's Abstract Expressionist past. Remarkably these pieces emerged from his sculptural work of the last ten to 15 years. "Lee Kelly: One through Nine" includes full color images of the recent paintings and selections from Lee Kelly's recent sculptural work. The book was edited and designed by Randal Davis, who also contributed the essay "...and how things are put together...." Introduction to "One through Nine" is by Kassandra Kelly.
