Life Lesson is the true story of God's divine intervention, leading to the transformation of a young woman who previously lived her life without hope. The Lord revealed Himself to Kristina in an unbelievable way, not only before, but after her attempted suicide following a rock bottom experience. Since this turning point in her life, she has learned many life lessons, which have helped her to grow in knowledge and relationship with the One who has been on her side from the beginning. Though she continues to fight the ongoing battle of sin and a number of trials, she has learned where to place her trust and hope, Jesus Christ. His promise to remain faithful to His followers provides great comfort. "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus" (Phil. 1:6 NIV).Kristina Minaglia has lived in Wisconsin since she was eight years old. She began writing her testimony shortly after her son's birth. In the meantime, she worked in manufacturing while striving to obtain her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Work. It wasn't long before the Holy Spirit prompted her to focus on turning her testimony into a book, in order to provide hope for others who may be experiencing similar trials. She enjoys walking, writing, spending time with family, and she adores the beauty of God's creation in nature.

You're Mine, Walker and All is the charming and informative story of a little boy who learns that his mother's disability is not about what she cannot do - but what she can do. Told through a conversation between KC and Mommy, this children's book with its whimsical illustrations will delight children and adults and at the same time teach a serious lesson about disabilities, perception, and optimism. Written by a woman who has cerebral palsy and who has refused to be defined by her disability, this book shows that a disability is a different ability. This book will appeal to parents with disabilities who want to share their story with their children, to parents of children with disabilities who want their children to see what is possible, and to parents and educators who want children to realize that being different is really okay.
Introduction to Statistics for Biomedical Engineers

Introduction to Statistics for Biomedical Engineers

Kristina M. Ropella

Springer International Publishing AG
2007
nidottu
There are many books written about statistics, some brief, some detailed, some humorous, some colorful, and some quite dry. Each of these texts is designed for a specific audience. Too often, texts about statistics have been rather theoretical and intimidating for those not practicing statistical analysis on a routine basis. Thus, many engineers and scientists, who need to use statistics much more frequently than calculus or differential equations, lack sufficient knowledge of the use of statistics. The audience that is addressed in this text is the university-level biomedical engineering student who needs a bare-bones coverage of the most basic statistical analysis frequently used in biomedical engineering practice. The text introduces students to the essential vocabulary and basic concepts of probability and statistics that are required to perform the numerical summary and statistical analysis used in the biomedical field. This text is considered a starting point for important issuesto consider when designing experiments, summarizing data, assuming a probability model for the data, testing hypotheses, and drawing conclusions from sampled data. A student who has completed this text should have sufficient vocabulary to read more advanced texts on statistics and further their knowledge about additional numerical analyses that are used in the biomedical engineering field but are beyond the scope of this text. This book is designed to supplement an undergraduate-level course in applied statistics, specifically in biomedical engineering. Practicing engineers who have not had formal instruction in statistics may also use this text as a simple, brief introduction to statistics used in biomedical engineering. The emphasis is on the application of statistics, the assumptions made in applying the statistical tests, the limitations of these elementary statistical methods, and the errors often committed in using statistical analysis. A number of examples from biomedical engineering research and industry practice are provided to assist the reader in understanding concepts and application. It is beneficial for the reader to have some background in the life sciences and physiology and to be familiar with basic biomedical instrumentation used in the clinical environment. Contents: Introduction / Collecting Data and Experimental Design / Data Summary and Descriptive Statistics / Assuming a Probability Model from the Sample Data / Statistical Inference / Linear Regression and Correlation Analysis / Power Analysis and Sample Size / Just the Beginning / Bibliography

Mitt namn är Kristina och det är jag som diktat dessa ord och fotograferat dessa bilder. The Sound of Navajo Country

The Sound of Navajo Country

Jacobsen Kristina M.

The University of North Carolina Press
2017
sidottu
In this ethnography of Navajo (Dine) popular music culture, Kristina M. Jacobsen examines questions of Indigenous identity and performance by focusing on the surprising and vibrant Navajo country music scene. Through multiple first-person accounts, Jacobsen illuminates country music's connections to the Indigenous politics of language and belonging, examining through the lens of music both the politics of difference and many internal distinctions Dine make among themselves and their fellow Navajo citizens. As the second largest tribe in the United States, the Navajo have often been portrayed as a singular and monolithic entity. Using her experience as a singer, lap steel player, and Navajo language learner, Jacobsen challenges this notion, showing the ways Navajos distinguish themselves from one another through musical taste, linguistic abilities, geographic location, physical appearance, degree of Navajo or Indian blood, and class affiliations. By linking cultural anthropology to ethnomusicology, linguistic anthropology, and critical Indigenous studies, Jacobsen shows how Navajo poetics and politics offer important insights into the politics of Indigeneity in Native North America, highlighting the complex ways that identities are negotiated in multiple, often contradictory, spheres.

Blanche Lazzell went from Maidsville, West Virginia, to the leading edge of twentieth-century American art. A member of the prominent art communities of Paris and Provincetown, MA during the '20s and '30s, Lazzell was always on the fringe of important developments in the modern art world. Her studies in Paris led her to adopt the techniques of modernism as well as other emerging styles. Among her groundbreaking works were some of the first examples of abstraction in America. Blanche Lazzell: The Life and Work of an American Modernist is a significant contribution to the history of twentieth-century American art.Know primarily as a Provincetown printmaker, Lazzell’s full life and career are presented here, generously accompanied by color reproductions of her work, showing the breadth of her accomplishment in painting, printmaking, and hooked rugs. Lazzell's true contribution to American art history was never fully appreciated during her lifetime. A renewed interest in the artist has developed over the past fifteen years, due mostly to the critical appreciation of her color wood block prints. She is worth remembering not only for her own work, but also for her role as a translator of the achievements of the European modernists for her colleagues in America. In Blanche Lazzell: The Life and Work of an American Modernist, nine essays and hundreds of full-color illustrations bring this incredibly talented and influential artist's work to life.
